WASHINGTON —
Sen. John Kerry introduced legislation Thursday that he said would provide tax relief for low income families and more than 100,000 children in Massachusetts.
Kerry filed legislation to fine tune the Earned Income Tax Credit program that is currently part of the national tax code.
The law proposed would allow individuals to earn more money before they have to pay taxes and equalizes benefits for married couples. Kerry also proposed new rules that would simplify who can qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.
The law allows many low-income people to reduce their tax bill when they take low wage or part time work.
“The last thing our tax code should do is penalize people for finding jobs,” Kerry said. “Folks below the poverty level are so far in the hole that they simply won’t be able to dig their way out unless we throw them a rope. In this economy, every penny counts, and this bill offers common sense help to families who are hurting the most.”

Thank you for not falling for this "pull yourself by your bootstraps" crap. It is so disappointing when you hear democrats speak about that and personal responsibility as the key to all problems.
