Though I know next to nothing about hockey lol, I love the Senator's enthusiasm here! :) And yay for Boston! :D

I also don't follow hockey, but I REALLY wanted Boston to win this.
And I'm glad that Sen. Kerry got to tout the Bruins in the Senate. The scattered cheers in the beginning, from others on the floor, were fun.
And I loved the murmured comment at the end from the (?) CSPAN (?) cameraman (?): "Hmph--that was great!"

Also: the words Sen. Kerry used to describe the Bruins' gritty , determined spirit (best non-hockey move: pouring Boston water onto the Vancouver ice in game 7, to make the rink "home ice" for the Bruins) also describe Sen. Kerry himself!

2. Well. the media buzzes from his mistake concerning Tim Thomas.

This is absolutely ridiculous, but these are the type of avoidable mistakes that make him look out of touch. Even I know the Bruins goalie is Thomas and I am not a great hockey fan, far from it. Advice to the Senator. You know you' re not great at names, so stop and think before you say something. This looks absolutely ridiculous. (Not that it matters, just extremely frustrating).

Such was the case yesterday, when John Kerry failed in his attempt to be just one of the guys by referring to Bruins goalie Tim Thomas as “Tim O’Brien”

3. This has been frustrating the hell out of me!

Because Kerry misspeaks and says "O'Brien" but a split second later corrects it to "Timmy Thomas" and no one is noting that! Every human being gets a name wrong now and then, but it's OK to do that and then correct yourself! We all know that no one's ever going to give JK a break and will try to call him on every word choice he makes, but when no one tells the truth of what happened, that's when these things get blown out of proportion!

About 54 seconds into the clip, JK says "Tim O'Brien" and in the next breath corrects it by saying "Timmy Thomas."

If even one person (not you, Mass, but the morons who are spreading this rumor) would check the source....!!!!

This also really frustrates me! Just another lame attempt to pick at and on JK, I feel. Especially since he corrected himself literally not even a minute afterwards. As you say, ANYONE can get a name or a fact wrong from time to time, even about something they know or care a lot about (JK has, in his words, been a lifelong hockey fan, there are pics of him from around the age of 15 if not younger playing the sport, etc). Kerry's mistake was not about something of importance in relation to his job, the way Brown's recent gaffes about VERY important matters, VERY intrical to his job were and are. Yet this is getting press? :thumbsdown:

It actually reminds me a lot of how they picked on Martha Coakley about something similar during her campaign against Brown (though I don't recall if she corrected herself so quickly as did JK? But still..). I get that the Sox, the Bruins, etc are a big deal in MA. But I'm sorry, to use things like this as political weapons or even critique, I feel, is really dumb...and talk about a "distraction"! And anyone who actually votes based on things like this should really think about what they are doing before going to the ballot box. (NOT talking about anyone here! But critics on the right, the press, and in general who make hay of silly things like this).

4. In fairness, he corrects himself immediately - unprompted in the audio

I suspect that he likely was multi tasking during that short call. In addition, had Brown was not that good in his Senate speech - sounding like he had never had an interest in hockey. (He had a Senate referring to Char(?) being 6 foot 9 inches and being "amazed by that" - which to me is a pretty silly comment for a person who played basketball - meaning he's been around tall guys.

I looked at the sites and there were actually not all that many people taking the bait - many even saying they disliked Kerry but this was a non story. I think this is just jumping on to it because of the past gaffes on sports names. I suspect that it simply means that while he is a genuine sports fan, he does not have the time to follow it much - which is close to what he said in terms of seeing the games.

I also think if knew the full names of the entire team and all relevant statistics memorized by only the truly fanatic, he would STILL not be seen as "relating to 6 six pack". He would still be a Brahmnin, incredibly wealthy man whose life is nothing like theirs. That this is true for anyone of his stature is lost on these guys.

But, his competence and knowledge on Senate issues and his actions for the state will be what people actually care about when they vote.

7. This had no credibility.

I saw the mention of this slight "bobble" from the Senator on TV. However, the clip showed JK immediately correct himself. It came off more as someone have a "senior moment" than anything else. The Globe had it right today when it talked about the "bobble" and said that the good Senator was a known hockey fan.

This will only be noted by people who don't like him not matter what he does. Nothing can be done about those people anyway. (I notice bad things about Sen. Brown because I don't care for the man and I think he's a poseur, a fake. Most any mistake he makes is going to get a slight "he, he, he" from me. Just the way it is.)

There is always some sentence that defies understanding as said. The difference between the two floor speeches were amazing. Kerry created meaning - beyond a simple sports win. Now this may be more mythology in the making than reality, but it rises to the occasion in a way that saying that nothing Brown said did.

8. Just saw this

Incredible speech. (And I swear I heard the good Senator say, "the Broons." I do believe his accent becomes noticeable over these local things that happen that bring happiness.)

Awesome speech. Written by a true fan. Even Brown, who was on the floor, called it awesome at the end.

Funniest moment: (The man is a Mass-soul at times, polite perhaps, but a Mass-soul never-the-less) In the midst of a congratulatory speech on "da Broons" he mentioned that the Red Sox just won 3 against the Yankees at the Stadium in NYC. HaHaHaHaHaHa, I wonder if Schumer was on the floor then? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Masssoul moment that now seems to be gone from CSPAN is that Kerry returned after Brown - and said that Brown reminded him that there was another superlative to claim. As Char (?) was 6'9", the cup had been held higher over the ice than ever before. Then a huge grin.
