1. Thanks so much!
It's not often we get advance notice of these Imus appearances and they're always something special. The roast clip is hilarious -- you can see a glimpse of a slightly more relaxed Congressional group just before things started to get uglier in the first decade of our new century. And JK is a natural at this sort of trading of friendly barbs. In a way, you can see that the stakes are lower if tensions can be released in a comedy atmosphere -- I don't know if JK would have made that WH intern joke about a Democratic president a few years later. I suddenly had a vision -- wouldn't it have been great if, post-2004, the Democratic Party could have had a giant roast of JK and let out all the tension and frustration via humor? Maybe if they had, they wouldn't have had to just stop saying his name for five years...

2. Interesting

I would bet that a LOT of Democratic Senators in the 1999/2000 period likely were intensely angry with Clinton. I read the speeches they all likely spent hours crafting on the impeachment speeches. All the Democratic ones seemed to have the same basic pattern - taking Bill to task for his behavior and making it clear that they thought it was a problem, listing the legal issues they thought were problems ( including all those typical in a coverup - like asking others to lie under oath and coaching the witnesses to agree with your version of the story - then arguing that, bad as it was it was not high crimes and misdemeanors. I suspect that most saw Clinton as a mixed blessing then - the charismatic leader of the party AND a bull in a China shop. (Not to mention, in some ways Clinton's bad behavior was part of why Lieberman, not the far more charismatic Kerry was chosen in 2000. Seeing Kerry here, he would have been great as the VP (or even P) candidate that year. )

4. Kerry on now
Asked about Whitey Bulger, said he doesn't know anything, but said that he doesn't know anything beyond the chatter.

Speaking of Kerry's 5 top songs, but spoke of how it is impossible to really have 5 favorite songs.

Libya - we are barely there in a support role - no Americans on the ground - and they won't be. A quarter of the Arab world is in Egypt. The Arab Spring has Arabs wanting to re-engage in the world. The alternative is madrassas/Al Qaeda. The problem was that allowing Qaddafi to massacre people would have ended that.

Imus brought up Hamas winning - Kerry spoke of having been there as an observor and hearing for weeks before that Hamas would win. Israel wanted election postponed. US pushed for that vote - than Rice was surprised with Hamas win. Imus said Kerry had to Bush go - Kerry said "it's just the facts".

Now is the definitional moment - need to make tough decisions - so people see the revenue and costs coming together in the future. Do not need to put it to zero immedaiately. Said that revenue % is at a (long time) low. Need to put revenue increases on the table - noted Republicans want to have somethings off the table.

Asked if he would be a better President than Obama - said Imus asks that every time he comes on - and then said he thinks he would have been a good President - maybe a great one. (pointedly avoiding question)

asked of Health - Said he was lucky, knock on wood - doing well 8 years afterward. Asked of Imus' health - good.

5. Thanks so much for the synopsis! I completely missed this..
..but am hoping audio of this will be online if it is not already--were you getting this from Imus' website *will check*?

Sounds like a really neat interview though (as all JK's interviews are:)). Did JK say what any of his top songs are? I'd imagine the Beatles and the Stones and Springsteen rank high in there! :)

6. I watched it
The list was:
No Surrender and Born to Run by Springsteen
Hey, Jude,” by The Beatles
“Satisfaction,” by The Rolling Stones
“Like A Rolling Stone,” by Bob Dylan

Here is the "essay" from Imus's site:
Tittled "Senator John Kerry is always honest with Imus"

Looking for this, using their searh, I found that she wrote snarky summaries of earlier appearances -http://www.imus.com/display/Search?searchQuery=John+Kerry&moduleId=5066863
