Well, all but one, of course. He probably did not have made his mind on the issue.

Here is his explanation: too busy

"Scott Brown has a strong record at the state and federal level against bullying and believes that all people regardless of sexual orientation should be treated with dignity and respect," Colin Reed, Brown’s press secretary, said. "His main focus right now is on creating jobs and getting our economy back on track."

So awesome that he and the other members of the delegation did this! Brown is noticeably absent, though. Figures that he'd give such an "explanation". As though JK and the others in this video are not focused on those things! :eyes:

Lucky for Mass. that its other congressional representatives can walk and chew gum at the same time!

But anyway, I think it's so awesome that JK and the other reps in this video did this. Such an important cause!

2. His excuse is amazing -and I wonder if they just have the last line on tape
It looks like each was filmed individually - and each part was no more than 5 seconds. It would seem this is not much to ask.

Not to mention, he filibustered his own co-sponsored Small Business bill that the MA press all trumpeted when he signed on - ignoring that it renewed two programs that I think were Kerry's and Snowe's.

Not to mention, the other blue mass article is that he has time for a fund raiser for a state representative who made controversial comments about it being ok that illegal immigrant women would fear reporting rapes. http://bluemassgroup.com/2011/07/scott-brown-ryan-fattman/ (Though to be fair, that is in August - I doubt he could be busier than the senior Senator.

3. In a typical BG way, their reporting will revolve around Brown's excuses.

And they are also smearing Savage ("Dan Savage, a provocative sex columnist who frequently criticizes social conservatives."). This may even be true, but how is this relevant.

4. Doing that this time does Brown no favors
Edited on Thu Jul-28-11 09:41 AM by karynnj
He would likely be better off if they simply reported that the Democrats of the MA delegation did this, not mentioning him at all. Many might then think that Brown was simply not asked. Had they done that, it would likely have been a little article that received few comments. Instead this tries for a more controversial story.

From the comments, it looks like his excuse is not flying. I suspect the reason is that for people who thing the PSA is a good idea, including many independents and most young people, it sounds comply lame and possibly even untruthful or cowardly.

I don't know anything about Savage, but as you said it is not relevant. This is an effort so mainstream that, per some articles, the Red Sox, and the employees of VISA have recorded theirs - here is the collection of them - http://www.itgetsbetter.org/video/

What I suspect is that Brown is afraid (or agrees with) the social conservatives, who believe that homosexuality is a sin and a choice. They then see this as condoning what they think is wrong. Brown siding with them over the welfare of teens really is pretty sad.

Teen years are often hard, but dealing with being gay does make them harder even with supportive families in blue states. Having leaders, athletic heroes and stars making this effort really should help. It could make a gay teen feel more accepted.
