OT - Stay safe!
All of you in the NE, stay safe and let us know you are OK. I lived in NYC for quite a few years, some more in NJ, I can't imagine a hurricane over there :-(. This looks rather scary. I hope that part of it is media hype, but still... be careful, please :grouphug:

7. Did not mean to leave you out
of course not :-). It's just that I wrote the OP in a hurry, and the whole thing was stuck in my mind as a hurricane "where it is not supposed to be".

13. No problem
Luckily we did not get the 100 miles winds as expected, lost power for 28 hours but the power workers are doing a tremendous job with over 50% of our area out. I was so happy when it came back on last night, it was over 90 degrees in the house. Well we made it through an earthquake and a hurricane, they say things come in 3, don't want to even think what is coming next.

2. Hope all of you stay safe. I can't quite get...
...my head around the whole idea that you've all faced an earthquake AND hurricane in the same week. YIKES! next week HAS to be better. :grouphug:

3. Believe me, Yvonne, the earthquake was not a big deal
except maybe at the actual epicenter, and for lovely old buildings like the National Cathedral.
The hurricane IS a big deal. . though I'm not up on latest, since . I'm out of town right now so not up on the latest, but both locally (my work places, ny apartment house) and nationally (state govs too), people seem to be very organized and not panicky. . good sign that we can still cope with SOMEthing in this country!!!!

5. I'm glad to hear that about the...
...earthquake. Learning of the damage did make me sad, though. :(

As to our country coping...

Other than that eight-year gap from 2000-2008, our country has always been VERY good at coping with crises. I think strong leadership makes a difference, doesn't it? :7 Hope you are doing well. :hi:

6. I was impressed to see how the country and the state of MA were well prepared.
When driving back to the western part of the state this morning, we saw lots of help driving toward Boston.

9. One of the WBUR pictures is across the street from our house in Belmont.
I guess we were lucky.

Here in Western Mass, we were lucky, a lot of rain, but we did not lose power and had only a few branches on the lawn and driveway, but nothing significant.

11. My son had a friend drive by our house and make sure there were no damages.
It's fine except for some branches damages that will wait until somebody is home. Good.

14. Hey from DC, Kerrycrats! :)
Or more accurately, Alexandria (at the moment). The weather is picture-perfect beautiful here..hard to believe Irene was here less than a week ago! Glad it's past now (knock on wood!). Glad everyone here made it through okay! Though Mass and especially Vermont I hear got it worse. :(

I was supposed to get here on Saturday but I couldn't get a flight out of Tucson (was in Arizona for the summer) until Monday, but it was just as well (not starting my internship until Tuesday but wanted to get here earlier to get everything set up, etc..one thing visiting a place but a whole other getting settled though temporary! lol). Scary stuff! Let's hope it's the end of weather chaos in the East for a while!
