1. Good debate, but not a game changer.
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 08:09 PM by Mass
Warren did what I expected, and is good at it. the other ones are solid progressives, as I already knew. We are lucky to have such a progressive bench. I knew very little of Marisa De Franco, and I found her impressive.

Why is Herb Robinson in this debate (seriously, getting rid of capital gain taxes? That is a progressive idea?)

This said, I find hilarious that our lefties who think Kerry is not progressive enough love Elizabeth Warren. Most of her positions are similar to his (something that does not surprise me, as I knew from her books she was not a leftie).

If anybody is interested in the debate, here is a live blogging of it.

3. I saw Marisa De Franco at the MA Young Dems..
..Convention at Harvard in May. I found her very impressive as well. Most any of these candidates I'd be excited to support-hell I'd go for any of 'em over Senator Centerfold! Haha :) But seriously we have a pretty impressive group of potential nominees here. I think Warren is the front runner though it's still pretty early out.

I don't get the progressives who claim JK isn't progressive enough. While his record may not be perfect (whose is?), It's one of the most consistently progressive records in the Senate. I think that because he is not an ideological purist or generally into the sharper, all or nothing kind of rhetoric, they take him as "not progressive enough". It's in many ways similar to some progressives' harsher criticisms of the President-his demeanor and approach is similar to JK's in some ways though they are of course different men, different leaders. But the "calm, cerebral, reasoned" approach they tend to share doesn't quite reasonate with a lot of that crowd, it seems..

Let's just hope they bring their butts out to vote on Election day! Turnout is what will, again, make or nbreak 2012, all the way up and down the ballot!

5. The problem is that people close their eyes about candidates
Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 07:00 AM by Mass
during the election period and ignore positions they disagree with (or they agree with, if they dislike the candidate). For example, I do not think Warren is that different than Lynch in her positions, but how many people supporting her have said they could not support Lynch. So I hope Warren braces herself against supporters' disappointment, who would come at no fault of her own, but will exist.

6. Well, it already started.

Some blogs have comments about her non endorsement of OWS and of the legalization of marijuana, while some people are trying to explain she misspoke. (LOL).

7. I really don't know her political position on much of anything
Being for good, honest, accounting and for sensible regulations is not necessarily partisan, though the latter is more often a Democratic position. I see NO reason to assume that she is to the left of Lynch. I assume Lynch also thinks he is for the middle class - the only thing we know about Warren.

It has to be exasperating for some of the other who really do have solid progressive/liberal credentials. The left almost seems incapable of seriously assessing the positions that their favored candidates took over their career. In 2004, they saw the moderate Dean as a "true progressive" - and in 2007, at Take Back America, Edwards' many very conservative votes were ignored and he was their darling.

It is pretty weird to see them already pushing Warren as a possible 2016 candidate - even though they don't know much about what her positions really are.

2. Blue Mass has a live blog where several MA bloggers exchanged comments
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 08:28 PM by karynnj
I did not listen to the live stream so I can't say how good the live blog was - other than it was interesting. Many candidates seemed to do very well. http://bluemassgroup.com/2011/10/live-blogging-the-umass-lowell-ma-sen-debate/
