How about a citizens' award for JK?
I just had this idea about giving Senator Kerry an award in appreciation of his life time's service to the nation.

Esp. in appreciation of the most noble and poetic acceptance speech, in fact.

Anyone else think this is a good/doable idea?

But can we still keep him visible? :hi:

3. He certainly deserves it
but it seems like we'd be trying to retire him.

4. That's true, I hadn't...
thought of that angle :-(

There is this part of me that really aches for the way a true hero was trashed, when at the same time an AWOL-loser was being trumpeted as some kind of a savior.

I feel like an avenging angel wanting my pound of flesh -- unless these guys are trashed and run out of office and/or JK and many other Dem pols similarly trashed in the media are seen for the genuine heroes they are, a part of me will keep burning up slowly at the injustice of it all :-(

6. Understand your feeling
Kerry was awarded the Kennedy Center Award earlier this year that was for everything he's done and I would bet that may have been part of their reason for giving it to him then. Ted Kennedy made some really nice comments and a very friendly interview followed with Tom Olyphant.

If life were fair, a free media would have investigated the charges and they would have backfired on Bush, who clearly had connections to the sleazy liars. Like you, it bothers my when good people are defamed and people of far lesser quality are exalted. I think that for many of us, this election was probably the clearest case of good vs bad in our life time, and bad won.

Kerry's ability to continue fighting for what this country should be amazes me. He has been dishonestly smeared so many times, but has always managed to somehow gracefully raise above it. I realize that part of why I didn't consider watching the McCain movie was as much based on feeling that I don't want to hear about his (or Dole's) heroism until leaders of the Republican party acknowledge Kerry's heroism AND admit that it was wrong to defame his character for political gain. Realistically, I know this won't happen.

7. He still is the hero...
just remember that most people who have been truly great and made huge differences in the world were not recognized as such by most people until much, much later, after those changes had taken hold and become a way of life. Everyone from to Jefferson to Dr. King were treated and thought of as radicals by many if not most people when they were doing the work that made them so great. Have faith. Our John will be recognized for what he does, but now we can just celebrate the fact that he is doing it.

Maybe we can fashion a DU Kerrycrat "thank you for helping us keep the faith" award. :)

5. He's got a lot of awards. Not to be down on this idea, but
just saying it is not like people do not appreciate his work.
