Keith Olbermann's e-mail on Kerry's DSM speech:
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 11:42 AM by TayTay
Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

Failed presidential candidate John Kerry said that he intends to confront Congress with a document touted by critics of President Bush as evidence that he committed impeachable crimes by falsifying evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
The memo purports to include minutes from a July 2002 meeting with Tony Blair, in which Blair allegedly said that President Bush's administration "fixed" intelligence on Iraq in order to justify the Iraqi war. http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/2235942822

Hunky Keith Olbermann, The Wonky Woman's Sexy News Star is now scheduling his first segment on Kerry V. Bush V. DSM. Oh dear. This is starting to snowball into something scary.

I hope Kerry actually speaks today. That is the only thing I fear. The DU /DKos response to a non-speech would be awful.

3. Senate isn't even in session until 2pm
I don't know what he's up to today, though.

6. I'm not surprised.

This snowballed into something much bigger than I think Kerry intended. He's probably still in residence in Boston working on what is turning out to be a major address. I will give him another day to get this together.

Committees for Tuesday, June 7th, 2005 That might have a Kerry sighting.

10 a.m.
Finance
To hold hearings to examine preventing the next
pension collapse, relating to the United Airlines
case.
SD-628
Kerry is on this committee. This is red-meat for a Dem and I cannot imagine that he will miss this. (Seriously, he must show for at least part of this. This type of thing is why Gawd created Democrats, for goodness sakes.)

*********************************************

Tomorrow becomes more interesting though. This committee is also meeting:
2:30 p.m.
Foreign Relations
East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee
To hold hearings to examine the emergence of
China throughout Asia relating to security and
economic consequences for the U.S.
SD-419

Ahm, Kerry is ranking member on this committee and they usually have to show for these things.

I wonder when he will speak on the floor?

10. My understanding is
That JK arrived back in DC a few hours ago.

Aside from scheduled committee meeting you have listed, I was told that the focus on the Senate floor this week is on the judicial nominees and possibly Bolton.

There is currently nothing set for when JK will speak on the DSM. But it will happen. I should get a head's up about it.

12. These things take on a life of their own. Sigh!
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 09:38 PM by TayTay
I was kind of afraid of this. It's not that easy to get time. I think people think that you can just get the research done, get the speech done and do all the other things that must command attention done easily. It ain't necessarily so. (Not people in this group, btw.)

Anyway, the committee hearings are damn interesting. The Pension one is damn, damn interesting. (Hell, as I have posted before, this is Democratic Red-Meat.) Between you, me and the lamp-post, I would rather wait on the DSM and get a complete and well-researched speech than get something thrown together to satisfy the desire of some folks to just hear a speech. (Not Kerry's style anyway.)

Again, just as an aside, between friends, was the office surprised by the Internet reaction to that one small story in that one MA paper?

2. couldn't KO lose the "failed candidate" reference now?
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 12:08 PM by ginnyinWI
I mean, do people really not know who JK is? Sorry, I guess it still hurts. ;(

My other comment is that MSNBC has a really low viewership right now, trailing behind CNN and FOX who are likewise in trouble. I'm more excited about it getting into MTP yesterday, but of course every little bit helps.

5. I do watch Olbermann most evenings.
He's witty and much less biased than other news shows. I also like that he interviews people one at a time, and doesn't attempt the opposing talking heads thing.

I don't think he's amazing or anything, but he is watchable.

I agree with you on the "failed candidate" label. I saw that in every single article that mentioned this story over the weekend.

7. I watch him too--
At least his #5 and #4. I do like him, but I was just saying that the viewership on MSNBC isn't so big. Maybe his show is higher than their average--I don't know. They DO give him a prime slot in the evenings. He's way better than Tweety or Joe S. and helps balance them out! I also really admire his writing ability (on his blog).

I used to watch Hardball all the time but finally realized what he's up to--how it's all about his ratings and that he is a big sell-out. Scarborough Country? Noooooo! :scared:

8. The understatement of the year.
"He's way better than Tweety or Joe S. and helps balance them out!"

Granted, both bellowing Chris Matthews and smirking Joe Scarborough managed to entertain guests of various persuasions, but I still find them rather self-serving, particularly Scarborough. The posturing is getting extremely old, as is the mouthiness.

Olbermann asks intelligent questions and tends to be understated on most occasions. I found his coverage of the John Paul II funeral surprisingly powerful, and of course I appreciated the fact that he had John Dean on to provide context for the W. Mark Felt revelation.

11. They changed it.
I copied and pasted into the original message from the Countdown e-mail. They can recycle it for later in the week, when the Senator actually speaks.
