Scott Lehigh on national debt (humour)
I like this editorial today in the Boston Globe.

The deficit generation

By Scot Lehigh | June 17, 2005

TODAY I'D like to take a little time to thank the younger generation for all they're doing.
....

Apparently they all got together and agreed to pitch in $1.75 billion so the United States can give the international agencies the go-ahead to forgive $40 billion in debt owed by African countries.

...

You know, I can remember a time when their parents would have protested that, youthful idealism notwithstanding, their kids really weren't old enough to take on all that responsibility. I'm even old enough to recall when some sourpuss politicians ran for office preaching fiscal discipline.

...

Actually, come to think of it, John Kerry was kind of that way, too, last fall. All that silly talk about raising taxes on the wealthy to provide a better future for the next generation. What office did he think he was running for, skunk at the garden party?

What a dope. It turns out he had it exactly backwards. No wonder he got such lousy grades at Yale.
