Unknown Caller
After repeated calls listed as Unknown Caller on my Caller ID, 5 times to be exact in a half hour, I decided to answer, I usually never answer Unknown Caller, but it was driving me nuts. So on to the call.

First they asked for my husband who is still at work and then they addressed me this way Mrs. ..... are you also a Republican ?

My short sweet answer NO WAY click. I'm still puzzled with the are you also a R, what the hell makes them think my husband is ?

2. Could be
But here in Virginia we do not list our party affiliation, and to assume my husband is by the question asked by me, really bothered me. At least my phone is silent now.

3. My Rethug brother signed my husband up for the RNC
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 07:51 PM by TayTay
So he gets 'Dear Fellow Rethug Destroyers of the Earth' letters every so often. They invariably contain a picture of Mr & Mrs. Shrub and we tend to take these out and hang them on the dart board. Very therapeutic. We often times send back checks written out for .01 cents. This is because it costs them at least 10 cents to process the check so they wind up losing money.

I am thinking of signing my brother up at the Re-Elect Kennedy site and sending in a check with a 'In his honor' on it. I think my brother might just choke upon getting a letter from Unca Ted.

Last year, he gave my daughter a signed pic of the Shrub for her Grad Party gift (and money.) (Hahahaha, very funny.) It traumatized the poor kid on her big day. Cheesus, what a friggin a*holey thing to do. I had to do emergency readings from Dem books just to revive the poor baby. Evil Rethuglican scum, your time will come, you bastard.

So, for Christmas, I gave my brother the box set of Fahrenheit 9/11 and the Michael Moore companion volume that contained the script. (Everyone in my family knew I was going for the big payback, so they filmed him opening his present. It was great. He actually saw the title and threw the book across the room.) My sister-in-law actually watched Fahrenheit 9/11, so there is hope. (I am sometimes a Big Blue Meanie!)

7. If he answered, do you think they'd recognize the voice?
Maybe, knowing that the telemarketer is probably low income, he would talk about kids' first and other real parts of the Democratic agenda - it would be cool to convert their callers.

The ones that might give the callers an earful might be some of the navy veterans with Kerry in VVAW or his crew.

9. yeah that's what I was picturing
not that he would yell or swear at them or anything, but that he would start talking with them and win any and every point they tried to bring up and totally win them over. :) Ha, I'd even like to see Teresa pick up that phone--she'd do the same!

8. We get the Republican mailings all the time
multiple copies with many misspelling of either my husband's or my names. When bored, we've crossed off our names and anything that looks like a code, and answered the survey in a way I'm SURE they love. (saying that Bush is evil and that we would much prefer an honest, intelligent, brilliant, moral and decent President such as JK. Then we added random junk paper to increase the weight. Then felt very immature when we mailed it.

10. next time just go along with it, and say yes!
My husband is a republican - and I intercepted a call one time before the election. It was actually fun playing with them. My daughter was rolling on the floor laughing at me.

11. This happened to my friend
although she is a registered Republican because she randomly picked a box (she knows better now). The conversation went as follows: "Do you want higher taxes?" "I don't know". "Do you want to ban gay marriage?" "No" "Okay then, bye" Click.

12. I got a call from James Dobson's group
It was a survey, I think what you would call a "push poll", because the questions were loaded (like -- do you realize that the Democrats are preventing up or down votes in the Senate?). It was automated, however, so no human being to give my piece of mind to. I answered it honestly, knowing full well that they'll NEVER call me again.

My congresswoman's office called me to remind me to vote in the primary. The lady was nice, and I was nice, but I didn't have the heart to tell her that I had voted the Democratic ticket. I'm a stay at home Mom, and I love talking politics, so I would probably welcome a call from Republicans just for the conversation! How pathetic is that?

14. If this ever happens to me, I'm going to
tell them I'm a proud Bush supporter, then see how long I can string them along until they figure out I'm not. I'd give cookie-cutter Rovian stooge responses to all of their questions for awhile, and depending on how long the conversation continued, wait until we got to something REALLY controversial, then hit them with the truth. That sounds like my idea of a good time, actually. I think I'd enjoy making them waste some time and energy on me.
