“Cold blooded killers will not for a moment stop the critical work of the G-8 nations in our commitment to end poverty around the globe.”

John Kerry is in Boston this week for the New England BRAC hearing.

LightUpTheDarkness has received the following advance copy of a statement issued today by Senator John Kerry in response to the terrorist bombing in London:

"Every American heart feels for the British people and the families of those killed and injured in today's horrific terrorist bombings in London. As a country which has also experienced tragedy at the hands of cowardly killers and which keeps faith with the special alliance Prime Minister Tony Blair reaffirmed on September 11th, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

"In addition to words of condolence and condemnation, America should offer every assistance to Great Britain in dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy and in hunting down and destroying those responsible. We must reaffirm that cold blooded killers will not for a moment stop the critical work of the G-8 nations in showing the world the strength of our shared values and our commitment to ending poverty around the globe. The terrorists should hear from all of us today: the future belongs not to fear, but to freedom. We must also be vigilant here at home to take every step needed to complete the unfinished work of homeland security, strengthening our port security, rail security, protecting chemical plants, and securing loose nuclear materials abroad. While these attacks remind us that the fight is far from over, they also strengthen our resolve to stand together for the right of free people to live in a peaceful world."

I like this:

1. This is a terrorist attack and we as Americans send our sympathy to those directly affected.
2. This is an act of mass murder. It will not be tolerated. We must hunt down and destroy those who pepetrate acts of ciolence against the innocent.
3. Let's make sure we have done everything we can to plug the holes in our security so that the chances of terrorism go down.

Can someone tell that a lot of people have listed them as "ignore"? Do the moderators pay attention, or does it mean anything at all except that you don't see their ugly posts?

I concur with everyone else here - this is a wonderful, sensitive statement from our President! And excellent that he doesn't mention *, but does get in that we are still not safe here, because of all the homeland security stuff that isn't getting done.

I need some help though - hasn't Kerry said this before: "the future belongs not to fear, but to freedom."

I know I've heard that before, and I'm sure it wasn't *. I want to respond to someone over at dkos and knowing if/when it was Kerry that used that before, will make my argument stronger I think. Also, I'm just curious.

Any takers?

22. I really like the tone and content of this statement.

it says so much,but doesn't come across as an attack piece. The anti-Kerry everything crew are sure to find fault because he isn't in Bush's face, but would we expect anything less from these tackles people?

23. There were a whole lot of people who liked the statement

We know that there are about 20 or so committed anit-Kerry people. (Of varying intensities.) There are many times that many who like John Kerry (With varying intensity.)

Focus on the ones who do like it. The haters consume too much time and energy. Besides, you are never going to get everyone. In politics it is a fabulous and crushing victory to get 60% approvals or votes. (Some say 55%.) That's just the way it is.

Kerry has a lot of friends on DU. He has a few committed anti's. So does everyone else.
