This 'Homeland Security' bill is a disgrace
Go look at the voting at the Senate sight. I don't understand this false allocation of money. No wonder REthugs don't care about Rove. They don't friggin care about security at all. This is the dumbest and most mean-spirited bill I've seen from Repuke in, oh, a week or so.

Shame on the Rethug liars. (And thanks to the noble Dems who voted for accountability and responsibility.)

1. Did you hear the NY Rep
on Morning Sedition last week? He said he'd stood up in a committee meeting and made a stink by demanding that NY get it's fair share of the agricultural subsidies. He said he'd withdraw his demand as soon as they stopped giving Nebraska bigger per capita homeland security allocations than they give NY, for god's sake.

I like his style.

2. These Rethugs are awful
Their priorities are just so out-of-whack with reality that it's tragic. Sadly, they won't be the ones who suffer from this. The Blue State people who are more at risk will. (But that will feed the Rethug need to go to war to justify their existence.)

3. Ack.
Of course you are right. Following the Rovian disinformation campaign? Holy crap. On the light side, I realize I've developed a bit of a crush on Joe Wilson. He's got a kind of rakish charm. And boy has he ever got nerves of steel. He's one brave man.

5. I like him, too
I've watched him before. He was on a Nightline town hall mtg. program a few months ago talking about Iraq, and he was great. He pulls no punches and tells the truth. Not a bad looking man, either. ;)

But I do have to add that I think Joe Wilson is dreamy.

4. Did you hear what Biden said?
He said (I'm paraphrasing here)-

I only have one prayer, and that is to never have to stand here on the Senate floor and explain to the American people why we voted against this when we had the chance to prevent something from happening. Think about that, think about having to explain your actions.

Wow - wonderful words. I have to confess, I do like Biden, especially when he is passionate. He has a way of expressing himself that really makes you think. I could get behind him if he got the nomination. Which it doesn't look like he has alot of support. I remember the first time Kerry came back to the senate after the election. I was feeling so bad for Kerry, how uncomfortable that must have been. Then Biden spoke up and said how disappointed he was to see his friend Kerry back. Everyone laughed. It lightened up the whole atmosphere at that moment, and I was so thankful Biden said that :toast:

10. Biden has his moments.
I will never forget when he was grilling Rumsfeld and mentioned his son in the Navy - "that's why we don't torture people. So they don't do that to MY SON." (or words to that effect) His expression was priceless.

And thanks for reminding me about the Kerry returning to the senate moment. That was a good one from Joe, too.

6. How come the vote was 96-1?
Only Coburn voted against. (brain fart on his part?)

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=1&vote=00189

Did they clean up the worst stuff with amendments, or just decide that they had no choice politically but to vote for it?

and the Nutjobs in the 109th (Weasel) Congress are not going to come up with anything that is any saner than this and the Country needs a Homeland Security budget, so they had to vote for this POS.

Sigh! What was Coburn the Oklahoma disaster's problem with this? (Lesbians got special privledges? Ther ewould be lesbians in the airport? What?)

Ahm, you guys know about Coburn and his fear of lesbians, right?

Statement of Senator John Kerry on Homeland Security Bill

“What’s most shocking about this homeland security debate is that we’re again and again robbing Peter to pay Paul. In a time of war we refuse to touch tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans in order to meet every homeland security need, and the Senate is cutting funding for security on mass transit in this homeland security bill. The Republicans who run Washington are turning the idea of sacrifice on its head.

“That said, until we have a different Congress and a different Administration, we are where we are – we’re in the business of either making tough choices or making political choices. I’d rather make tough choices and let the chips fall where they may. We have to be smart and strategic about how we invest homeland security dollars, and that means making honest decisions that direct money to the highest risk population centers and other high-profile targets. We need to allocate money based on risk, not on some bureaucratic formula that doesn’t take into account the riskiness of targets. It’s just makes sense given what we know about 9/11 and the recent attacks in London. Terrorists aren’t operating in some sort of bureaucratic la la land, and neither should we.”
