OOOh - I need to vent!
Here in Az, even tho its 118* outside, my kids start school next week.
They have a modified year-round schedule.

I just came back from registration for my daughter that is going to be a sophmore. She needed to get a schedule change, so we stood in line forever to see her counselor.

When we finally sit down in his office, and what is on the counter behind his desk???? A sticker that says JEB08.

After we left, my daughter said to me "You were kind of tough on him mom". (We were discussing a teacher that my daughter got stuck with, that none of the kids like).

In my opinion, that was a really stupid thing for him to have on his counter. I can be the most professional, cordial person in the world.
Or I can be a real pirhana. Now if I ever have to meet with him again, I will have an attitude. And all because he had to display his political views in his office. And to top it off - it was support for Jeb. Jeb, an even bigger dufus than his brother. He didn't need to do that, I would have never known. AND, judging from the # of Kerry stickers I saw on parked cars last year, you can be certain that I am not the only one that was offended today.

Thanks- I needed to vent - grrr.

1. You ought to complain to the school board or something
I know where I work it is against the rules to overtly display your political beliefs in the workplace. I would assume a public school would be similar, since a PUBLIC school is clearly not supposed to endorse any sort of ideology. People really blow your mind sometimes.

2. I agree.
An adult might get pissed off, but that could be genuinely intimidating to a kid. I think it's ridiculously inappropriate. I'd be showing attitude too.

3. You are right
My son is a teacher and no way are you suppose to show your political beliefs to the students. I would complain to the School Board.

4. Isn't it interesting how our feelings about someone can be based
on their outward showing of political opinion? I know I do it all the time so I'm certainly not judging you Pirhana! Think of how much more comfortable you would have been if the guy had a Kerry '08 sticker or even a Hillary '08 sticker posted for all to see.

I think maybe I'd ask the Principal if there are any rules about staff displaying (non-class related) political stickers, signs, etc. in their offices / class rooms and go from there. If there is a rule against it you can narc on the guy, if not then you could voice your concerns about the appropriateness of displaying such things.

Sorry this incident added to your heat index. And really, Jeb? What is this guy a moran?

5. So true! If there was a Kerry sticker on his desk,
I probably would have ran over to Starbucks and gotten him an iced coffee or something. And definitely would have gone out of my way to make him laugh. I know it had to be a horrible day to be a counselor on a day like today.

I am biased!
I have relatively few prejudices about people.
But if you are a republican - and a Bsh supporter -

6. I heard that!
Every time I see a car (or more likely a huge SUV) with a Chimp/Cheney sticker on it I have an uncontrollable wave of prejudice and distrust wash over me. I automatically don't care if the seagulls poop on their newly washed vehicle - I know that's wrong but ...
