5. Thank You
It didnt take me all that long. Yeah I think there are more very liberal democrats RMMing those committees than DLCers. Its interesting to know also that some of the better democrats are high ups, like Durbin is of course the Minority Whip and Dorgan is the policy chair. Pelosi is one of our most liberal reps, whether people believe it or not, and the choice in 2002 was her or Martin Frost, and while Frost wasnt a bad guy, I would prefer Pelosi.

8. Whats funny is that you may hear her refered to as
"Bush accomdating", "DLC", "Caves in" but Pelosi is one of the most liberal people in congress, and besides while there are many great liberal congresspeople out there, that alone doesnt qualify them to be leader which is sad to say.

10. She is, thast what I am getting at
I am also getting at people who suggest people like Conyers, McKinney, or whoever as our party leader in Congress while maybe good intentioned dont understand politics. The person themselves not their viewpoints determines whether they would make a good party leader or not. Which could explain why some of our past speakers like Tom Foley, Jim Wright, Tip O'Neil(I do believe he was a liberal though), and Sam Rayburn werent members of the partys liberal wing per say but leaders. Thats not to say of course there cant be really liberals in congress, that alone I am saying doesnt qualify them. Pelosi had been one of Gephardt's whips before she got the job.

12. Labor, Liberals, or a new way
I was reading an article earlier about labor in the 60's and how they had started abandoning the party over Vietnam. Toss in some of the seedier aspects of labor that was more common back then. Then there has always been the socialist/communist subgroup, plus the hippie war protester added in the 60's.

Is it any wonder some people thought the Democratic Party needed a new direction?

13. Yeah
We lose counties that fourty years ago, we won in big numbers, its a shame, a classic example of this is Malcomb (sp?) County I believe in the Detroit area, its your classic ethnic working class suburb, in 1960, it strongly supported Jack Kennedy but its only been downhill since, now to be fair, the party's leftward swing on social issues was a part of why but its still a shame. Politics certainly is odd, I believe we've been doing better now in some parts of the country than FDR did. I really think the best way to beat republicans is with economic issues.
