SMART Security
This will probably need some kicks and responses to keep it from dropping into oblivion. But this seems to me to be the answer.

SMART Security (In response to Bayh)

Crafted by Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR), the Nobel Prize winning national organization of health care professionals, SMART Security provides a way for citizens and organizations to take a direct role in building genuine security for our county and the world.

1. Rule of Law
2. Stop the spread of WMD
3. Change budget priorities to emergency responders, developing troubled nations, renewable energy

There's also a link to a petition.

1. I like "Rule of Law"
Rather than "war on terror" - "rule of law" , at both domestic and international level leads to focusssing on the solution - no lawless areas in which terrorists can gather strength.
I responded over there. (without mentioning most of these things are Kerry points.)

2. I did too
I've thought that was the right frame for quite some time now, the sound byte we needed to define "mostly an intelligence gathering operation, etc." I would think the left and DLC ought to be able to agree on these principles and SMART Security, well how smart is that!! It just gravels my butt that the solutions are out there, and we've got people so stuck in political maneuvering that they can't see them.

Thanks for responding in that other thread. :)

3. Actually to some degree, Kerry talked of a smarter
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 12:35 AM by karynnj
"war on terror". In late Sept he gave a Philadelphia speech (I thing at the University of Piladelphia where he laid out how he would fight smarter. I think as they keep talking about how London was handled more people might make the leap in judgement and see that this makes sense.

Thank you for posting this - it's nice to read something that pulls you away from ground in ideas that hamper thinking.

4. Yeah he did
I know they tried to explain that you can't hunt down every terrorist in 40 countries and all of that, but I don't think they were able to really hit the point that corruption and smuggling and money laundering is all part of terrorism and the only way to fight that is through "rule of law" in every country. And I wish they would have come up with another phrase for the 'war on terror' too. When Lieberman or Nelson or a few other Dems fuzz the 'war on terror' and Iraq, I could just thunk them in the head.
