I received a somewhat sad e-mail. Kerry related
I had visited a blog. There was someone saying that he was afraid, or concerned about another Kerry running in 08, and that's why he is sending out all these e-mails. He wasn't too fond of Hillary, but he seemed to like Edwards and Clark as Pres and VP. He just doesn't think that Kerry has "the right stuff to be president at a time for the state of our nation." (Sounds like a Rovian talking point doesn't it?)

Anyway, It is somewhat ok that Kerry isn't president right now cause they would be blaming this mess on him, but in a way it's unfortunate that we may not see him and Momma T in the WH. I know the Dems don't like to renominate people twice and just accept that Kerry was a "terrible candidate" (that's what the naysayers want everyone to believe) He would have made a cool president.

It's not fair, but I guess that's the way it is.

1. What was the e-mail?
And why would this one person make you throw in the towel?

I believe Kerry will be president one day. If he doesn't run and win in 2008, he won't be too old in 2012, or even 2016. I simply don't agree that it's "the way it is" unless Kerry and all his supporters let it be that way.

I don't want to throw in the towel, but I get mad at some dems treating our former candidates like yesterday's news.

3. who is "us" ?
it's not me or many others on this forum.

people were saying similar things before. Kerry and everyone else never had the support of everyone. all candidates who ran had people who didn't support them for whatever reason.

but why do you consider the opinions of those who oppose Kerry to be more important than those who support him ?

5. Oops I meant some dems
I don't consider opinions of people who oppose Kerry, but I get tired of all the negativity (not here of course :)). I have to remember that blogs and DU do not represent the party as a whole.

I had a small relapse, but I am better now. Sorry.

7. but it's something that will never stop
complaining about being tired of it wont do anything. it's politics, it's how things are. Hillary gets a lot of crap but she has a far better chance of winning the nomination than some who are popular on DU and other parts of the internet.

4. This e-mailer is one person with one opinion!
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 01:27 AM by wisteria
He obviously doesn't have his facts straight. If he thinks Edwards would be more qualified than Kerry to run this country he is crazy. Edward's didn't bother to run for a second senate term because he knew he would lose in his home state. He didn't even help Kerry win in any of the Southern States. I don't mean to bash Edwards, but really. This e-mailer thinks Edwards can get us out of the mess Bush has created. He/she can't be serious. Also, many Dems don't think of Kerry as being a terrible candidate. Kerry's loss can also be blamed on the party's lack of a clear message and Clinton's moral failings.
As for Kerry not having a chance, I refuse to accept that as fact. Kerry is remarkable in how he bounces back. He was far behind the other candidates during the primaries and he came out ahead. Hillary may run, she may not be able to, who knows. Much can happen between now and 2008.
If I were you I would have e-mailed this person a reply and told her or him that I didn't share their point of view and explain all of the wonderful things Kerry has accomplished and what we could look forward to if he were President.

However, in the final analysis,(he/she is full of sh*t IMO). I think this e-mailer has no good intentions, but is trying to promote his candidate and his/hers own point of view.

Please don't let these types of people get to you! Your sad now because of this person. Don't continue to allow this person to bring you down and make you pessimistic.

11. I think you might want to respond to the sender by changing his
focus to the 06 elections. Just don't think about 08 yet and who is viable. 4 years is a lot of time away from this election. And what helps is to remind people to stay focused on the goals here and now. That means grassroots to get progressives elected every step of the way. Because we have to get our media back and fair elections back. We know republicans have no interest in doing that even if this regime is corrupt.

SO when people send you stuff like that say, "we have an election in 15 months, WHAT can we do or say now to get Jane DOE who supports our causes elected?

And we're fighting with our backs to the walls so we have to stay focused on this day and this year leading up to next year. Look at how close Hackett came. Once we get the media back, we can show people FAIR broadcasting and have fear elections.

Kerry got hid with both a corrupt media and corrupt elections--even greater corruption than Gore because they had 4 extra years to plan and tighten their control.

9. I agree about Edwards
I was just talking with someone about this just yesterday. I was saying that JE has the energy, personality, personal story and heart, but it took until he was Kerry's running mate to get some content to his speeches. He needed Kerry's policies in order to have anything more than "two Americas". Fighting poverty is great, but a president needs to be more multi-dimensional.

10. I liked him better before some media consultant got hold of him
and put the huckster in his voice. I saw a speech he gave from 2001. More subdued, but more sincere. I like him. But he sometimes does the "aw shucks" routine too much. But his personal story touches me.

12. Edwards is cool but
incomplete without Kerry. The focus on poverty is definitely too narrow for a presidential campaign. And to me, he comes off as something of a phony. It's ironic that Kerry is sometimes seen as fake, when he has very little ability to put on an act -- if Kerry is uncomfortable with a question, he just looks uncomfortable, and yet some people take that as meaning he's phony.

13. he would have made an excellent president. We'd be in much better shape
right now if he were in DC (not taking a HUGE vacation like shrubya). It still makes me heartbroken to think about the good he would be doing right now when the country needs a real leader.
