Cleland on Kerry 2008: "There's a lot of support...
...and we'll get it right this time."

In Roger Friedman's review of the release of Miramax's "The Great Raid" - at Fox News! - there's this little nugget (emphasis mine):

Last night Miramax — or what's left of it — gave "The Great Raid" a premiere on the USS Intrepid, docked off Manhattan's West Side.

Former U.S. senator from Georgia Max Cleland, a real American hero, was the guest of honor. He spoke eloquently from his wheelchair after telling me that he would back Sen. John Kerry in another run for the presidency in 2008.

"There's a lot of support for Kerry, and we'll get it right this time," he said.

Hmmm...someone from Fox News calls Max Cleland "a real American hero" and then quotes his positive statement about John Kerry, in full and with no snarky side comments? Did I fall down the rabbit hole? Or is someone going to lose their job over there?

Okay, it was the entertainment section after all. Still..it's very, very nice to see.

1. oooh! oooh! Did I get a scoop?
This may be the first time I've seen Kerry news out in the wild before it was already posted here or LUTD or Democratic Daily.

But then, it was the entertainment section.

(I got it from a Yahoo alert. What, y'all don't think I normally read Fox News, I hope!)

15. Windsurfing
cropped from a pic in the American Windsurfer article sandnsea posted recently.

So many folks were using the John-and-Teresa avatar from the DU library that I wanted something different. Although that one is a fine avatar, I just like to be different.

Here's the full pic:

I just used a photoshop-wannabe program that came with my camera to crop out a section, then reduced it to 48 x 48 px like the rules say.

I'll look for the link to the article - it was really great. I loved this picture for the combination of joy and concentration in his expression - that's the expression of a real athlete, someone who is really fully experiencing the moment.

Glad you like it too!

:-)

20. You should post that on the GDP thread about alpha male deficit in Dems
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 02:08 PM by blm
It isn't that there IS a deficit - it's that the media LIES when they push the idea that clumsy oafs like Bush ARE great athletes while mocking Kerry's REAL LIFE athleticism as mere photo ops.

17. And also
I am so damned tired of the bashers who repeat the RW talking points about JK's looks. Most of us here seem to think he's a damn fine lookin' guy, and I think this pic shows that quite well, don't you?

9. I have Kerry set up on my yahoo alerts too :)!
Do you get as many stories about Kerry Woods as I do?
Haha - it drives me crazy. I never even heard of him before, now I know more than I ever wanted to.

18. No "Kerry Woods" for me.
I had one set up for "John Kerry" and one for "Senator Kerry", so "Kerry Woods" wouldn't come through. I was still getting too many mails and most were dupes, so I dropped the "Senator Kerry" alert. I might put it back now that I'm getting more organized about my email.

7. Yes, he did get it right.
I think Max meant the media management part of it. The part you wish a good public servant didn't have to spend their time on.

11. There IS alot of support.
Every nite when I am on GD (with the exception of that one nite!)
I run across a really nice post about Kerry.
I even got an email from someone who supports Kerry, and saw that I did too.

I still believe!!

12. Great find MH1!
I love how the qualifier "if" (as in "if" he runs) is missing from both of his statements! I'm not trying to read too much into that omission, I just like the way he worded what he said.

I also love that they called Max "a real American hero". Maybe by the time the next election rolls around (only 3 years and 2.5 months!) people will wake up and realize what a real American hero looks and sounds like!

13. Interesting
I hope so. If we can't prove he won next year and win back the House and Senate and all that I would love for him to run in 2008. I think in 2008 he should run on the same issues he did in 2004 (health care, economy, independent energy etc) and then he should show people what he was right about with Bush and the republicans. And this time we have Dean as our chairman so things will go so much better. I remember last year reading an interview with Kerry's ex-wife Julia and she was saying how Kerry really wanted to go after the SBVT guys but the DNC wouldn't let him for whatever reason and they also didn't allow any Bush bashing at the convention. Remember that McAullife had ties to the Clinton's who are main people involved in the DLC. So I wouldn't be surprised if they purposley ran a bad campaign or whatever. I wonder what the field is like for Kerry. If it was between Kerry, Biden and Clinton I wonder who would win. Of course for a while there were rumors of Gore running too. But I haven't heard anything except rumors.

That sounds like it would be an interesting read, and possibly useful, too.

19. There better be a lot of support.
And as you all know, if you ask me, we " it right" last time, but--there better be a lot of support because I still think President Kerry is the only way out of this mess for America.

Some days, I feel confident that things can be as they were pre-Bush...in awhile. A few decades perhaps. If the planet holds out that long, my golden years will be truly golden. But other days, it's like I'm holding on (partriotism-wise) by a pretty thin thread. So, I hope Kerry gets it, like I'm secretly pretty sure he will. Otherwise, I'm going to be very, very distraught.
