Big names raise $2.2M for Jimmy Fund

BOSTON - Ben Affleck, John Kerry, Roger Clemens and George Steinbrenner helped raise more than $2.2 million on Friday in a telethon for the Jimmy Fund, the children's cancer-fighting charity long favored by the Boston Red Sox.
The event had already topped last year's total by 6 p.m., with the phone lines open until midnight. The telethon on WEEI-AM radio and New England Sports Network cable television station surpassed its goal of raising $2 million by 10:30 p.m.
Dozens of celebrities called in, including both Kerry and fellow U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy; Clemens, the Houston pitcher who made frequent visits to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute while with the Red Sox; and Steinbrenner, the New York Yankees owner who has helped out each of the telethon's three years.....
