Another thought about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
Like everyone here, a circus of thoughts and emotions has been going on in my head for the past couple of days. There have been moments of anger, moments of disbelief and of course moments of great sadness when the tears are impossible to stop.

Another (hopefully not too tinfoily) thought has also crossed my mind. This is a very cynical thought and I hope no one thinks I'm too crazy. Here goes: I think the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is proceeding just as the Neocons in charge want it to proceed. I think they are trying their absolute hardest to make the Federal Government look totally and completely inept, so that when people point fingers, it will be to blame the mechanism of government itself rather than the people in charge (ie. Bush Co.). FEMA not doing it's job? It's broken, privatize it. Army Corps of Engineers didn't operate up to snuff on a depleted budget? Hire someone else to do the job. We've already seen them spend a lot of time and money trying to convince people we'd be better off if SS was privatized - this event is just a privatization campaign at warp speed.

Let's face it, this operation has been about as fucked up as it could possibly be. While I do believe a large part of it is simply ineptness, I also think there is a method to their madness. (And that of course would make them simply evil.)

That is why I believe that when we vocalize our criticisms of the handling of this disaster (to those outside the progressive circle) it's important that we lay the blame on the shoulders of George W. Bush & Co. rather than saying "the government" failed the people. No, it didn't - the morans in charge failed the people.

Having said all of that, I do think that people in general have been pointing the finger at the administration (at least so far). I think we just have to be careful of the spin that is already taking place and that will take place in the weeks and months to come, and be prepared to counter it with actual facts.

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts (on a non-Kerry related topic.) Like others have said I don't know what I would have done without you guys during the past week!

1. To me
it shows what inept people Bush has put in leadership roles. They are all his rich buddies or rich buddies children. They know nothing of the business they are in.

They were forced to act, because they didn't know how to run such a disastrous situation. I really think the military has ran the show for the last day and that is why we see much more happening. They could of been there so much sooner, but Bush and his buddies screwed up again, they had no plan, they are clueless, they are in it for power and power only, screw the American people, well now the American people hopefully will see whatr a complete screw up Bush's government is.

My son's first thoughts is what do you think the terrorist are thinking of this, we just proved how unprepared we are.

I do not believe one word coming out of this administration, I'm am so sick of their photo-ops and using people. Homeland Security is a fake, it now has been proven, where are all our tax dollars really going. The only reason Bush stepped in was because he got pushed up against a wall, he is so friggin clueless, now he wants to be seen as a President. To many people have died in this country from this disaster, from the Iraq war, my God how many more people have to die, to show what kind of imbeciles are in control of this country.

I'm like you I'm so angry, they are the biggest bunch of crooks and liars that this country has ever had to deal with. What will happen next, I'm afraid to think about it.

2. I agree with your thoughts.
But I also have to add that this is the first test of this administration that didn't have to do with the "war on terra".
And they get a big, fat "F". They can blame this on others, and it just proves one more time, that this administration doesn't take responsibility for anything.

Now for my tin-foil hat moment, and this is horrible, so forgive me.
I can't help but wonder if they are not thankful for the fact that this is taking the "heat" off of the Iraq war.

3. I'm sure that thought has crossed their tiny little minds
At this point I wouldn't put anything past this administration*. I would like to say that nothing they could possibly say or do would surprise me any more, but I'd probably be wrong. Shrub strumming the ge-tar while NOLA drowned was unimaginable, yet it happened.

:banghead:

Maybe their ultimate goal is to drive us all totally 100% batshit insane. I think they are well underway in accomplishing that goal.

4. Here's something truly satisfying.

A rant from Steve Gilliard. Read the whole thing.

. . . You say this isn't about politics? F*** you, this IS politics, real time, real life politics, where the insanity of all your ideas are exposed to the world for the fraud that they are. Tax cuts kill. Ask the relatives of the dead of the Gulf Coast. . .

. . . Instead of hearing what we had to say about Bush, you called John Kerry a coward, mocked Max Cleland, blamed everything but herpes on Bill Clinton. You enabled Bush into this mess and now you're shocked? . . .

. . . Bush, the man your fever dreams built into the next Winston Churchill when he is really the live action Chauncey Gardiner, has failed to everyone, in plain sight, without question. . .

11. I never would have thought 5 years ago,
that I could read something like this about a President of the US and not feel it was out of bounds - even with Nixon. With Bush, I feel in agreement with the anger and utter frustration he expresses.

10. It's the corruption and the stupidity
These people are arrogant, stupid and corrupt, a horrific combination that has become lethal for so many in New Orleans. I never ascribe to a conspriacy theory what I can lay at stupidity's doorstep.

Bush believed that the shoring up the levee system was pork for a Democratic city. He had no problem signing off on nearly $1 billion dollars in the recent transportation bill to build bridges to nowhere in Alaska, a Rethug stronghold. But he refused to put anything in New Orleans. Because he didn't give a flying fuck about it.

I think he believed that 'faith-based' levee systems would just have to be good enough to protect New Orleans. All the Rethugs thought that way. Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the US House, thought that New Orleans was fit only for the bulldozer and should not be rebuilt. He was, thank goodness, caught on video with this comment, so he can't ignore it.

This Administration played chicken with the budget for America's infrastructure and they lost. This is criminal neglect and Bush should be put on trial for this.
