Why I have a problem with people threatening to leave the party

if certain candidates aren't chosen for DNC. It to me shows a total lack of committment first off, and total immaturity, I didn't threaten to leave the party if someone I didn't like would get the nomination, and I certainly wouldn't do so if someone I didn't like got the DNC chair. Work for who you want for DNC chair and if they don't win, work for your vision of what you want the party to be, its not about my guy or no one, its about bettering the party damnit and in effect the country and world. Purism sucks, it doesn't win you anything in the end.

You know these same people would be and I do say rightfully so furious if someone threatened to leave the party if Dean became DNC chair, sure you can be upset if your guy doesnt get the party's nomination or win DNC chair but you don't threaten to leave the party because of that, but then again I am not a purist, I have pragmatism.

remember? Of course, it was ignorance, more than a lack of concurrence with the leadership, but after 18 years of being a registered voter, I finally got that you can work a helluva lot more effectively as a unit. I think a lot of people are blowing smoke, Kleeb. Throwing tantrums, and what not. Your other thread...er, rather my spew in the other thread made me feel more secure than ever in my choice to get involved with the party as a member, rather than a sometimes volunteer from the outside. It works the other way too. At least in my case, I ran toward the party--not away from it.

Have you ever played team sports? I always hated the guys who wanted to give up and go home when we were down 9-0 in the 5th inning. There's always hope - what other reason is there to play if you don't have hope?

yeah I was a baseball and basketball player when I was younger. I remember we were down by quite a few runs, and I came in relief and shut the team we played against and we later won.

had to say it. I know this isn't the sports forum, but I guess there could be some great political analogy for the designated hitter system. Pitchers have the mind control of what happens in the game. I thought everyone knew they were important. What was wrong with the coaches?

There's a pitcher from my old high school who went to the big leagues. He was there much later than me, though--I didn't know him personally.

13. It's going to be an interesting couple of years

There is some image repair work that needs to be done. The money guys he had before are still with him, so that's good. And he has a national following and that's good. I believe the good gentleman is well situated to get to work and help America get rid of the stain of the bushies.

In all honesty, those hearings next week should be pretty good. Iraq is such a colosal screw-up and it is so dangerously close to civil war right now that I just don't understand how * isn't up for impeachment. Yuck!

14. It amazes me how John Kerry is working right now

He does seem to have a determination to help this country one way or the other. It's so evident how much he really cares. He's doing exactly what he said he would do as president. They stole the job from him, and yet he's still doing the work.

People's patience for Iraq is waning. It's unfortunate that it takes some people seeing a high death toll of Americans for that to happen, but now it seems that even the pro war people can't justify it anymore.

20. for him or any Dem to win next time, we need:

1. National election standards--verified voting, and an end to voter disenfranchisement.

2. The Dems need to unify and put out a clear message about who they are, and get rid of the stereotypes. Make people know that Democratic leaders understand them and their needs by definition, and they will begin to trust the party again. That's what parties are for, after all--to identify a candidate with a "brand name".

3. Kerry needs better campaign strategists! I'm thinking more and more that it was one of the main problems.(I'm reading The Candidate now, about Kerry's run for the nomination. When he used his own judgement and attacked Bush, he won out over Dean. Then the managers got at him and he was too nice for too long--until the end of the campaign, when others let him get tough again. Then he said he felt "let out of a cage")

4. He needs to use the media to slam back against every Rovian attack--and I do believe that the next Republican will use Rove again--and not let the lies and smears stand. It would also be good if they could deal with the Swifties for once and for all.

about Kennedy made me think of that. If Kerry is going to use the media, he has a really sticky challenge ahead of him. I hope he can find some way of doing it without them putting an ugly slant on everything he does. They don't like him much, and they seem to tightly leashed by the RW to do anything that seems derogatory to w and cronies.

Dems are independent thinkers for the most part. The Republican goose-steppers are easier to keep on-message. But the Dem convention was unified, so it is possible. We need to increase our collective self-esteem and confidence in our party, and that should quiet the nay-saying.
I noticed that in November and December on this board, whenever it looked like Kerry and lawyers were going to make a move, the criticism stopped, and then it would start up again when things didn't happen as people thought. If people would just get some faith in their leadership, things would be so much better!
