New Kerry E-Mail. (It's so nice to get the e-mail again.)
Dear Tay,

The johnkerry.com community has done it again. 48 hours ago, I sent an urgent appeal asking our johnkerry.com community to rally behind three brave Iraq war veterans running for Congress.

Thousands of you answered the call, raising over a quarter of a million dollars to help Illinois veteran Tammy Duckworth and two veterans running vitally important campaigns in Pennsylvania.

Keep the momentum going.

Support brave veterans running for Congress.

Our actions are sending a powerful message that will help shape the outcome of this year's critical elections.

And, standing together shoulder to shoulder, you and I are making it clear that we won't tolerate vicious personal attacks on the service, courage or patriotism of men and women who served America proudly and stand ready to serve again.

Today, we're adding two more veterans to our campaign - one who deployed in support of the war in Afghanistan and another who saw duty in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. And we're pressing for even more support for Tammy Duckworth, who is only 18 days away from a general election campaign in which the GOP will throw everything they have at her.

I can't tell you how strongly I feel about the need to stand with these veterans every step of the way through the 2006 campaign. And how much it would mean to me if you acted right now to join me in this effort.

Support brave veterans running for Congress.

You know Tammy's story - how she returned to America having lost both of her legs on the battlefield in Iraq more determined than ever to serve our nation. Let me tell you about the two other veterans we're focusing on today.

Tim Walz is running for Congress in Minnesota's 1st congressional district. A 24-year veteran of the National Guard, Tim answered the call after 9/11 and deployed abroad with his unit as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The son of a public school administrator and community activist, Tim carries on his family's tradition of service through his 18-year career as a public educator. And he understands that veterans' issues are national security issues because America can't be strong if our government continues to break its promise to care for those who have served our nation.

Support brave veterans running for Congress.

The other brave veteran I want to tell you about is Jay Fawcett, running in Colorado's 5th congressional district. The son of a steelworker and a nurse, Jay joined the Air Force Academy at seventeen and saw military action in the first Gulf War. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Now an open seat, CO-05 has been Republican-held for 20 years. Help elect a Democrat who will protect our rights, fight for a quality education for our children, and keep America's promise to our veterans and retirees.

You can act right now to bring deeply committed veterans like Tammy, Tim, and Jay to Congress, where their leadership can make an enormous difference. They're running strong, spirited campaigns and they deserve our support.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

P.S. Don't forget to spread the word. Enlist more people to join in our efforts to help our veterans' slate of candidates. Forward this message to two or three people you know right now.

Kerry's Email List

One question floating around out there is how much "power" does Kerry's massive email list have.

According to an email I just got sent to the list he sent out a fundraising email for 3 Vets running for Congress and raised over $250,000 in 48 hours.

2. This list will not be as effective in anyone else's hands. I for one
would never give to others like I give to Kerry and I would feel betrayed if he just gave it to someone else. (I don't think he would ever do this though).

4. The comments are amazing
Suggesting that Kos or Dean (if he was allowed to) could do better. One person repeatedly suggesting Kerry give his list to a candidate who can win - Warner.

They also said that his blogging is too little, too late - though I didn't see the other 2004 candidates doing the type of blogging Kerry is now doing. In fact, I think the only other Senators I've seen are Boxer (who I think did 1) and Feingold whose been doing them for awhile.

7. considering nobody "gave" that list to Kerry
and people themselves signed up for it. and people can easily unsubscribe. why should he give the list to anyone else. why don't they earn their own list like Kerry did.

10. Also, Kerry didn't - to my knowledge - mention that
he would give the list away. (Of course, he likely hoped to be in the WH. He would then have a real platform to address issues.

11. don't you love how they view the list as having nothing to do with JK
as if anyone who had that list could do the same. as if those who are on the list don't choose to be because of JK. those who are on email list obviously are familiar with the internet,e specially as it concerns political campaigns. and if they wanted to be on anyone elses list they could easily get on just as those who want off JK's list can do the same.

12. Even more so, that those who RESPOND to the emails,
either giving money, signing petitions or doing something he suggests, are:
-reading the email (rather than just ignoring or deleting)
-either taking time to do something
or
-giving money based on his reccomendation

I get tons of solicitations via email and snail mail - I certainly react differnetly to all of them. The people who claim they can't unsubscribe are irrelevant (and possibly incompetent) because the point was that in a short time - he got a huge response. Even JK doesn't know how many on the list have him as their first choice. What he does know is that every time he has gone to the list with a request, people have responded. (I was as impressed when he over night got thousands of veterans' stories when he was looking for backing on the military issues - that people trusted that he would listen and were willing to share their troubles was amazing.)

8. Then why didn't they?
Gov. Dean cannot do this type of appeal. He is the Chairman of the Dem Party and cannot choose sides. Gov. Warner is free to go out and do the hard work of collecting signatures and getting enough people to trust him to amass his own e-mail list of supporters. No one is stopping him from doing this.

Honestly, this is whining at it's worst. I think it shows a lack of brain power on the part of the posters. (I think the pols involved are smart enough to ignore this kind of whinyness. It sounds like, dare I say it, sour grapes.)

3. One a day, I received the new one also. It is so nice to have him
sending out e-mails that reach me again. I don't care if he is asking for money. It is for a good cause.

6. I missed my Kerry-mail, too.
It's so nice to see his name again as I'm deleting my daily viagra ads and loan approvals.
Sigh. More money. If it was anyone else, I'd say no.
