Organization Helps War Veterans Find Jobs At Home
(CBS4) BOSTON They risk their lives to protect America, and 15 percent of the men and women in uniform will be unemployed when they return home -- that's almost three-times the national average.

Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry joined a host of other dignitaries and signed a resolution to support Helmets to Hardhats.

“The training that we provide can be anywhere from three to five years, it's a long term commitment but in exchange for that you actually get a career that's sellable in this country and throughout Canada," said Joe Dart of the Building and Construction Trades Council.

Union presidents from all the trades work to recruit soldiers for civilian jobs. Helmets to Hardhats provides training, apprenticeship, for good paying jobs with benefits.

“It's a win-win, those people and their families win out the country does the construction trade does, the union movement is stronger it's the best thing I’ve seen going," said Sen. John Kerry, (D) Massachusetts.

1. That's good news
More proof that JK supports the troops in much more productive ways than just slapping a yellow ribbon magnet on his SUV. He is truly a champion for all those veterans out there and goodness only knows they need someone who fights for them, because the rethugs are leaving them to rot after they've used them up.

5. Shoulda guessed.
Like a rock.
:-(
Folks are more interested in bashing Dems than discussing all the good they're doing.

How about a nice thread about how every candidate sucks except mine? That should be good for a hundred or so replies.

8. How pathetic - this is great on so many levels
-supports veterans
-supports unions

This is a great Democratic program - for everyone talking about Democrats abandoning the unions.

But there's no S&B in this

6. Oh what a great program.
Thanks to all the people who worked on this. (The video said that this program is active in other NE states as well. Kudos to them as well.)

Ahm, gee, with this and the PTSD program at Harvard, I am very proud of Sen. Kerry's efforts today. Veterans issues lie very close to my heart, so I am very cheered by this.
