Bush Gets "Constructive Suggestions" On Line-Item Veto

By Henry J. Pulizzi

Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--President George W. Bush said Thursday that he received
some "constructive suggestions" from lawmakers on how to move his line-item
veto proposal through Congress.

"I listened carefully to some constructive suggestions from both Republicans
and Democrats as to how to get a piece of legislation passed," Bush said after
meeting in the White House with a group of lawmakers from the House and Senate.

Under the White House's current proposal, line items vetoed by the president
would be put on hold while Congress considers legislation to rescind the
spending, which would occur within 10 days. The provision should help the
legislation avoid a Constitutional conflict, the White House has said.

After Thursday's White House meeting, Bush was flanked by a bipartisan group of
lawmakers in the cabinet room, including his rival in the 2004 election, Sen.
John Kerry, D-Mass.

"I can remember on the campaign trail he said that he supported the line-item
veto, and he is following through on his word by being here at the table," Bush
said.

2. Santorum, Allen & Kerry. Oy!
Just oy! Yes, I think the line-item veto is a good idea, but that line-up gives me heartburn. Sigh! Somedays politics just sort of sucks, cuz of the company you have to keep.

Dumb and Dumber sit next to my Senator. Sigh!

3. Only senator not to look at Bush when Bush is speaking!
What is he thinking: "I should be the one talking now".

4. Yes **, unlike you
Kerry makes good on his promises.

I have to add that pic of Kerry is priceless.
The look on his face reminds me of a little boy who has to be
somewhere he doesn't want to, and has to act on his best behavior.
lol. I can only imagine what is going thru his head as he sits at that
table with that group....

(though how he can look boyish in some photos at 62 is another JK secret. )

He is on his best behavior. The other picture on the WH grounds looks like he could take over tomorrow.

12. the chimp needs to learn that lesson on keeping one's word
I'm glad he at least noticed.

I loved the expression on JK's face in that picture! Something like, "can you believe this bunch of nitwits? Ya gotta laugh at 'em so you don't cry!"

LOL--I can't stop laughing!

6. It's Barfbag, honest.
Can you imagine a worse lineup: Bush, Santorum and Allen. In reverse order, See no Evil, Hear no Evil and Evil. Sigh!

That is an interesting expression on Sen. Kerry's face. "I can't take these idiots seriously, I'm just here for the danish."

I love, respect and admire the good people of Virginia. It's an wonderful and beautiful state that I have had the great pleasure of visiting many times. My brother, his ex-wife and their two kids live there. It's a luscious state. I like the Gov. of the Commonwealth and so forth.

I just can't stand George Allen. He is too dumb and mean to represent Virginia in the Senate. It's not fair to all the great Virginians I know.

from my family members living in the state. One of them is still in shock about the 2004 election.

Bush: "I'm proud you're here, Senator."

I can now understand the look in the first pic. Kerry, said under his breath while looking away from Chimpy, "yeah, yeah, bite me."

I agree, I wonder if Bush had to rehearse thanking Sen. Kerry for his 'help.' (And he's not helping you, you moronic excuse for a leader. He's FOR good government and openness in the process. Geesh!)

15. What was that kid's song?
"One of these things is not like the others." (Or something like that.)

The IQ at that table must have at least tripled when JK sat down. The the things this man must endure for the sake of democracy. :loveya:

21. Damn, he's good.
Not only is he holding bush*'s feet to the fire, but he showed up for the BBQ.
No wonder he looks like he ate the last cookie in the jar. That pic is priceless. It's like he's the only one in the room who knows what's for desert.
He is a very, very smart man.

22. Yeah, he is.
I think this is a good move. As the article stated, JK keeps his promises. Ahm, I hope someone in the middle of that gathering takes notes. That's what real statesmen do, they don't lie and mislead and paper it over.

I am a happy camper today. I love my Senators. (Forgive me GV. I am insufferably gloaty today.)

23. Hey, I get to see Jack Murtha tomorrow night.
He's not Kerry or Kennedy, but he's what we got.

Going to a formal dinner for the American Ireland Fund, and Murtha is the guest of honor. It should be a blast. I just hope the evil ones don't show.

24. That should be amazing!
He got an award from the JFK Library. (The prestigious Profiles in Courage Award for his outspokenness last fall on the Iraq War.)

I really like him. Applaud extra loud, for me, and take pics. Have a blast my dear, a real blast. (I am jealous. Gee, I never get to see, ahm, nevermind.)

He also really is advocating leaving Iraq in a VERY short time frame (weeks).
