The town is about 4 sq. miles with a population of 23,000. This is a pretty active community. So is the sister town South Orange, pop. 17,000. Very active and up-to-date websites and a shared one at twotowns.org. Blogs, forums, chats, calendar of events, we're surrounded by universities: Rutgers, Kean, Seton Hall.

March 19, 2006 March in Maplewood Against the War
Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Information: The South Orange-Maplewood Committee to Stop the War (www.SOMAstopthewar.org) is sponsoring a march through the center of Maplewood to protest the war in Iraq. March 19th is the third anniversary of the start of the war. The march will start at the Maplewood train station (town side) and pass through the town center, by the library and Town Hall, and then circle back through town to arrive at Ricalton Square. A rally against the war will follow in the square.

March 19, 2006 Forum on Patriot Act
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Information: "Personal Liberties; Public Security" is the topic of a public forum to be held on Sunday, March 19, from 2-4 PM at the Ethical Culture Society, 516 Prospect Street, Maplewood (at Parker Ave.) Deborah Jacobs, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of NJ since 1999, the featured speaker, is regularly involved in advocacy activities related to the Patriot Act and civil liberties. Following Ms. Jacobs presentation, the forum will solicit audience presentation of all viewpoints in open discussion. The public is encouraged to attend and talk about this important subject. Light refreshments. Admission is free and open to all.
