Home by Christmas
This is a great post about Walking to New Orleans and becoming more active, doing more than holding a sign and going home again. It's great and I agree with it completely.

But get this, "Dave Cline (President, VFP) and I were talking, and he is suggesting a parallel, two-step campaign… one I want to endorse in its general outlines. “Home by Christmas” as part of the Bring Them Home Now! campaign, that whips the living hell out of Congress.."

I swear this just makes me want to rip the hair out of my head and run screaming from the house. Home by Christmas?? It's a great idea NOW?!? And they're going to whip the hell out of Congress with it? Where the fuck were they last year?

:argh:

1. The same thing
is happening with the DSM inquiry. How many of these anti-war groups are actually pushing Congress to move forward with the hearings? When Roberts threatened to end them, not a peep.

2. Do you think that may change this week?
The Senate will be back is session.

The NYT has the new DSM on their front page - the story is damning and it highlights the right time. In January 2003, they knew there were no weapons and they knew the were unlikely to get the second UN resolution they needed. They attacked because they wanted to. (The article repeated the comment in the ealier DSM documents that talked of fixing the intelligence.)

Before they gave up on the second resolution - Bush spoke of twisting arms and threating to get other nations to sign on. Kerry's Georgetown speech, at the same time, is a major contrast.

With the nation against war at this point, will the media change its pro-war bias?

3. That would be great!
Groups, such as afterdowningstreet.org, should be stepping up the pressure now. I really believe that if the Iraq inquiry goes forward, it will be a major turning point and the others will move forward.

4. Kerry was brave enough to tell the truth at the time,
even before the polls fell down around *'s ankles. But now the less brave are finding it possible. Too late, but better than never. We need more people with Kerry's and Feingold's bravery and belief in the power of telling the truth.
