My Daughter Walked Out of School Today in L.A.!
Los Angeles Students Walk Out in Immigration Reform Protests
March 27th, 2006 @ 5:06 pm

Across Los Angeles today, students from LAUSD high schools walked out in protest of the immigration reform that “proposed criminal penalties for residents found to be in this country illegally.” Students from “as many as 21 campuses took part in the protest,” with approximately 20,000 students or more participating.

My daughter who attends an LAUSD San Fernanado Valley high school called me this morning at about 9:00 am, to tell me she was walking out. She joined with other students from her school who marched down sidewalks and streets with police escort to the Van Nuys Courthouse area where some 1000 students from atleast 6 or 7 San Fernando Valley high schools rallied for 3 - 4 hours.

3. That's awesome
I still regret not going to the big rally on Saturday. A lot of my relatives went. Anyway, good for you daughter!

5. I wish I could have gone too
But my daughter had a school thing. She felt really strongly about doing this, and I agree. Thanks.

4. Wow! Congratulations
We all hope and pray we raise kids with convictions and the courage to act on those convictions. Looks like you got the strong proof today that you succeeded.

Congrats to you and your daughter!

6. Thanks Tay Tay
Tomorrow she's going to talk with an administrator at school about educating the kids on how to contect their Senators about this. Ultimately we need to keep the kids in school, and not have them on the streets, but it was pretty darn inspiring to be there and see it.
