House panel nixes VA enrollment fee plan

The House Budget Committee killed the Bush administration’s plans for charging some veterans an enrollment fee for health care and raising their prescription drug prices, but it left alive a proposal to increase health care fees for some military retirees under age 65.

The Senate passed its version of the budget two weeks ago and had a similar debate and outcome. Money was added to the VA budget to make fee increases for veterans unnecessary, but senators defeated an amendment, sponsored by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to eliminate the Tricare fee increases for retirees.

1. This hits my husband and me

being retired Navy and under the age 65, just take more money from us, what the hell, we will have nothing by the time our full retirement comes around. Or as of right now we will be working until we die. Geez and when my husband signed on he and I thought we would be taken care of , huh. :banghead:

You should definitely write to your Senators, Repug or Dem. Over the years, it has amazed me how many ways they can find to screw us. If they'd gotten away with privatizing SS, this would have just been piled on.

Barfbag and Warner are my Senators, its like talking to brick walls. I have written to them before and all I get back is Bush rhetoric. Warner should be ashamed of himself. Barfbag is worthless.

They both voted against it. The only Republican who voted for was Chaffee, I wish to hell he would grow a set and leave the Republican party, he should be ashamed of all of them.

These Rethugs are lying bastards. They hide behind the troops and pretend that they love them, but they don't. They view the veterans of this nation as mere backdrops to be trotted out at events to add to the 'patriotic' flavor, then shove the vets into the background whenever it comes to actually helping them. They should be ashamed of themselves.

It's like the one vet said at an event I went to in Jan., "if you want to support the troops, vote Democratic. They are the only ones trying to do anything to actually help veterans."
