Kennedy had a nice tribute to the late Senator Proxmire
Who was best known for his awards for silly government spending, one of the ones I know offhand was a study on why people fall in love. Proxmire also and this is quoting the Senior Senator from Massachuetts had an iron man like record in the senate in regards to voting that won't broken unless Cal Ripken runs for senate. It was in today's Washington Post Outlook section.

1. Proxmire was greatly loved and admired in Wisconsin.
His shoes are being filled now by Feingold, another one to fight for truth and justice. :)

2. Anyone who could replace that sonofabitch McCarthy
and last in to my lifetime has my infinite admiration, I learned about Proxmire in International Relations, my professor was bashing his Golden Fleece awards, I went to wikipedia and saw the number one golden fleece of all time was for a study on how drunk fishes act from sober fishes, and drunk rats from sober rats hahahah. As an Orioles fan and Ripken fan, I loved Teddy's little joke about the streak. You guys have had some great people over the years in your state in the senate, my state for the most part stopped during Jefferson's time, its sad but true but we've made a comeback as far as the governorship goes, Warner and Kaine are both great.

3. another good one is David Obey
He's been around forever. I'm not sure how he keeps a seat in a largely rural area of central Wisconsin, but he does. The worst red areas are outlying suburban counties like the one I'm in. The mantra we always hear is "I'll lower your taxes!" from the largest to the smallest governmental seats--and apparently it works around here. That's why Sensenbrenner is still here. But he's gotten local Hispanic communities riled up with is immigration bill, and that may prove to be his undoing. ;) I'm sure his challenger Bryan Kennedy is smiling right about now.

4. I nearly got a job with Dave Obey
Even had a phone interview with his office when I applied for the internship last year, they loved that I was someone who focused more on economic issues than anything. He's the RMM of the appropirations committee so he probably does a lot of good things for his constiuents. He's the third most senior member in the house I believe, the first two are John Dingell who I also applied to work for and John Conyers. All these guys are RMMs of important committees. Dingell's been there since before my mom was born and when my dad was a toddler.
