A little blurb about Laura Bush's iciness to THK
This biography is apparently less than useless, but there are a few gossipy things that might be worth the time to glance at it in the book store. But then I saw this part:

http://books.guardian.co.uk/news/articles/0,,1746270,00.html

She shows an icier side with Teresa Heinz Kerry, John Kerry's wife, who told a reporter during the 2004 election that as far as she knew Laura Bush never had "a real job". She phoned to apologise, but the first lady - who had been a teacher - declined to take the call. "Call her back," she told an assistant, "and tell her that Mrs Bush understands that when you talk to the media, things get quoted that you didn't quite say, or mean to say."

I still remember when this whole thing happened, and Laura came across as a class act at the time. Now we see behind the scenes, she can be as petulant as her husband. I shake my head at how everything people think they know is actually the exact opposite.

1. In hindsight,
Teresa should have told her to shove it. Mrs. Bush evidently believes that she has a divine right to say anything about others and is above being criticized.

2. Again, I am not surprised.
Laura Bush is completely okay with everything her husband does. I am not surprised that she would be petty over this. It fits the whole Bush clan. Their attitude is, no matter what happens, exploit it for your own uses.

7. Did you read the Kitty Kelley book
"The Family" She only worked for 1 year as an elementary librarian, then met idiot and they got wed 3 months later. She never worked again.

In fact idiot wanted to run for Congress but didn't have a mate, his friend introduced him to Laura and 3 months later they were married and on the road campaigning for Congress.

She was a Democrat but because of marrying idiot, she said she married a Republican so therefore she became one. No mind of her own whatsoever.

3. That was infuriating

I had seen the show and actually thought what Teresa said and how she said it was very kind. She was asked how she would be different and after making some almost over the top positive comments about Laura she essentially spoke about how her work with the foundation was a large part of her identity. She said Laura hadn't worked since she was "grown-up"?? or young - which since Laura hadn't worked since she was in her mid 20s - makes sense in context.

Worse than Laura, was Karen Hughes, who after Teresa apologized complained she made it worse because she didn't say that being a mother was work. (That Teresa seems to have done a better job with her boys than Laura with the Twins apparently didn't sink in.)

5. Wow, we knew we had a King George, but I wasn't aware that we had
a Queen Laura also. Maybe she is jealous of THK, because she has a real man for a husband.
Oh, and Laura talking about decorating, please, she can't even dress herself tastefully, I wouldn't even want to see what she considers good decorating.

6. This is the appropriate thread to share some Arkansas Secret
Service gossip, and no, not about Clinton, but *. My sister knows someone there, whose husband is in the Secret Service. They are Republicans, but have no illusions about what a nasty person * is, ESPECIALLY to the twins. He heard * on the phone with one of them, not being very nice. This story sounds credible as it keeps in line with everything I have heard about * and how he treats them. Perhaps this explains why in part they tend to get into trouble -- it gets them attention which they otherwise wouldn't get, doesn't it? I've decided that iciness is a good way to describe the real Laura * -- was she also cold to her daughters? Who knows, but they do seem to need some lovin'.

8. Poor kids
You never saw the kind of affection that the Kerry's girls showed when they talked about their dad. The Kerry girls' convention speeches were incredible and obviously theirs.

9. she didn't come across as a class act
in a way she may have. but the fact taht every fucking motherfucker around them was using it to attack Teresa showed how horrible and vindictive she was about this.

stupid selfish cold horrible bitch. i hate her. she kicked a mother of a soldier who died out and had her arrested because she wanted to know why her son died. TEresa would never do that.

Laura only thinks of herself and her own shitty worthless family. i HATE her.

stupid fucking murderer bitch. FUCK YOU LAURA.

can you all see how angry i am

11. What bothered me is the press seemed oblivious to the cruelty
and baselessnes of Karen Hughes' comment which they spread as reasonable. There was absolutely no justification to imply that Teresa's comment was ever intended to demean motherhood. (I doubt anyone refers to Laura as Momma L. - odd that the news media painted Laura, who seems pretty cold, as the perfect wife and mother.)

12. The press wanted to believe this about Teresa
It fit their playbook. They all but declared her an out-of-touch, spoiled rich woman and nothing was going to change that. It was the rule book for '04. That is was unfair, inaacurate and cruel means nothing to them. It was the playbook. It takes a lot for a reporter to step out of the accepted memes and few in '04 attempted that.

Karen Hughes is a master at deception, as are all the Rethugs. They can't govern, they are hopelessly incompetent and they are mean, but they run excellent smear campaigns. It's the one thing, besides lining their pockets at the public trough, that they do well.

16. Not only do I love this, Tay, but
I actually think it's one of the major points we have to make in the midterm campaign and in 2008. It exposes exactly who and what they are.

But they have an audience which is primed to believe everything they say, so maybe they're only average liars. ;)

17. These people are soulless entities
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 09:29 AM by TayTay
They really are. We, as Dems, and particularly as Dems on the lefty side of the spectrum, actually feel it when good programs get cut or when things like Katrina happen. The Bushies and the Rethugs feel nothing. Nothing at all.

I sometimes don't think that gets emphasized enough. They hate governing. They hate everything to do with governing. They could not give a rat's ass about what affects their governing has on actual people. They will do or say anything to retain power. Power is all that matters to them, not what you do with it. If smearing people and destroying lives, like what they did to Max Cleland, is the price, then they pay it without even a moral twinge.

These people must be stopped. For the sake of democracy, they must be stopped.
