Not bad, but get it right
Kerry didn't join Murtha. Why is it that people insist on twisting this. Murtha made his statment in November. Kerry made his speech in October. Besides, Kerry has been consistently pushing for sanity, strategy and exist strategy for as long as this war has been going on.

John Kerry On Iraq: No Flip, No Flop

Thirty five years ago, a young John Kerry stood on the Mall in Washington, D.C. and called for the withdrawal of American troops from Vietnam. He has been ruthlessly attacked for that moment of truth and he's about to be attacked again.

Today, John Kerry joined Jack Murtha in calling for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

In a best case scenario, our troops are home by the end of the year. In a worst case, they are home by the end of May. The choice belongs to the leaders of Iraq as it should.

1. I don't really care
I just want them all on one page, an end the war page. But it will be interesting to see what Murtha has to say about it.

2. Mr. Murtha is not known for frequenting Lib hangouts
He is one of those 'tough lunch-pail' Democrats and he doesn't hang out much with the Progressives. This is too bad, but it is his choice. He has his neighborhood and he's comfy there.

3. In terms of ending the war, you're right.
I just hate that an incorrect statement gets repeated so often, by blogheads and the media, that it's taken as fact.

4. I understand
I imagine that's the only way they could bring themselves to say something good about Kerry though, so whaddya gonna do. *sigh* I think Max Cleland "voted for the war" too, as did Murtha. Everybody brushes that aside, and just continue to hammer Kerry. Weird.

Is it a good plan? Yes. Then support the freakin' thing.

6. But have you read the stupidest commentary of the day?

Well the title and first paragraph qualify:

Opinion
Two Years Too Late
The Nation

The Nation -- I'm glad John Kerry finally has a coherent position on the war in Iraq. He's against it, and he wants US troops to leave. I just wish he would have said so two years ago, when it might have made a difference. From his New York Times op-ed today:

Iraqi politicians should be told that they have until May 15 to put together an effective unity government or we will immediately withdraw our military. If Iraqis aren't willing to build a unity government in the five months since the election, they're probably not willing to build one at all. The civil war will only get worse, and we will have no choice anyway but to leave.

p>

If Iraq's leaders succeed in putting together a government, then we must agree on another deadline: a schedule for withdrawing American combat forces by year's end. Doing so will empower the new Iraqi leadership, put Iraqis in the position of running their own country and undermine support for the insurgency, which is fueled in large measure by the majority of Iraqis who want us to leave their country. Only troops essential to finishing the job of training Iraqi forces should remain.

The question now: will more of Kerry's Senate colleagues follow suit?

7. Cheesus, talk about your backhanded compliments
What Sen. Kerry didn't pass the uber-liberal litmus test before he submitted his plan? Geez, that's a tough crowd.

I'm glad I don't get The Nation. I would have to cancel my subscription. And I've been rather busy lately and I don't know where I would find the time.

8. It's called having a difference of opinion
He wasn't going to come out with this two years ago, because it wasn't his damn opinion yet. Now it is. Situation changed, so did his opinion. Hello, you stupid lefty freepers!

Le sigh.
