Could this be the root of David Brooks' hatred of Kerry
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 08:36 AM by karynnj
His column today on Iraq desrves this: :puke:

Today’s David Brooks’ column is a debate between “Mr Past”, who thinks Iraq was a disasterous mistake and quotes British accounts of how difficult Iraq was in the 1920s and “Mr Future” who mentions reading exodus and seeing parallels to our bringing freedom and democracy to Iraq.

It concludes with Mr Future admitting that Mr Past’s view may be more popular now, but saying that it’s a choice between Mr. Past’s view and those of Moses. He also makes a point that Saddam killed more Iraqus than we have.

Apparently the Passover story is for us to force the Iraqis to accept democracy. This wasn't in my haggadah, there must be a new neo-con one. I think I will not post again ever that a Democrat too blatantly uses religion. This column is beyond infuriating and shows how completely sold he is on neo-con ideas. (Might be why he says he'd rather be with Cheney.)

2. Democracy is not in the bible, but slavery is
Also stoning people and burning them at the stake. Anybody who says "The bible says . . . " is going to be in trouble. I like it best when we use bible stories as allegories instead of as some literal, well, bible, to justify killing people for an Idea.

I just looked at my paper, and Brooks's column isn't in there -- sometimes they're a day late, but if I do get it tomorrow, I'll comment more. thanks for the heads up.

3. You can justify anything using the Bible

And the RW certainly does. This morning on Wash. Journal, one called up and said, about the immigration issue, that Jesus said "render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's" and that was proof that we need strict immigration laws where we prosecute illegal immigrants! Never mind that there are about a zillion quotes by Jesus about helping the poor and helpless. The guest (A UCC pastor) did include this in her reply, thankfully.

As for Brooks, I'm sure that's what he'll be talking about on Friday's Newshour. He only gets one idea a week.
