I got this in my email:
Dear NRDC Member,
With Congress on recess this week I wanted to update you on our fight for the
Arctic Refuge -- and urge you to speak out against deep cuts in funding for
America's environment.
The good news is, the House Budget Committee has passed a budget resolution
that is free of any provision that would open the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge to oil development.
We owe this interim victory for Arctic wildlife to two dozen Republican
moderates who continue to stand tall in defense of the Arctic -- backed up by
thousands of supportive phone calls and email messages from online activists
like you. This fight is not over and we will alert you when the next round
begins.
The bad news is, this same House budget resolution makes extreme cuts in
spending critical to our natural heritage and the health of our communities.
It provides zero funding to help states protect parks and wilderness. It
devastates our hope of expanding public land and open space by slashing the
Land and Conservation Water Fund by 40 percent. It scales back urgently needed
protection for America's most vulnerable wildlife.
These cuts must not stand!
Your Representative is at home this week and listening to constituent concerns.
There is no better time for you to speak out against this looming budgetary
attack on our environment.
Please call your Representative's local office right now:
Representative F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr.: (262) 784-1111
(my comment: hahahahahahaha!)
Tell your Representative to:
(1) oppose the Budget Resolution (House Conference Resolution 376) because of
its deep cuts to environmental spending;
(2) support the "Spratt (D-SC) Alternative," which would restore critical
funding for our health and natural heritage;
(3) oppose any attempts, including the Hensarling (D-TX) Amendment to sneak
Arctic drilling into the final House budget bill.
It's also important that you reply to this email message to let us know you
called.
Let's be sure that all 435 Congressional home offices get an earful this week
about the House's anti-environment budget.
Call your Representative today. Demand a budget that protects the Arctic Refuge
AND the rest of our environment.
Sincerely,
Frances Beinecke
President
