1. Is it too early?
Not according to Yahoo search.

2008: Preference for Democratic nominee
Polling Report - 13 minutes ago
Polls listed chronologically . Diageo/Hotline Poll conducted by Financial Dynamics. April 19-23, 2006. N=603 registered Democrats nationwide. MoE ± 4.

I have never seen one of these polls (not an article, the actual poll) pop up in a search.

Diageo/Hotline Poll conducted by Financial Dynamics. April 19-23, 2006. N=603 registered Democrats nationwide. MoE ± 4.

"If the 2008 Democratic presidential primary were held today, whom would you support if the candidates were ?" If "all": "If you absolutely had to choose, which one person would you support?"

Hillary Clinton 38%
John Kerry 14%
John Edwards 13%
Joe Biden 5%
Wesley Clark 3%
Russ Feingold 3%
Bill Richardson 2%
Mark Warner 2%
Evan Bayh 1%
Tom Vilsack -
All of these (vol.) 1%
None of these (vol.) 5%
Unsure 12%

2. I have some info on funds from my local paper:
They were focusing on Feingold, being a WI paper. He has raised more this year than Biden, Clark, Bayh and Edwards, but less than Kerry, Warner and Hillary.

Kerry raised 1 million in March alone; Warner has raised 2 million this year, and Hillary has raised 6 million. (It didn't say what Kerry raised this year so far.)

So it would seem that the only ones in the top five who have been raising a lot of money lately are Kerry and Hillary. Hmm.

By the way, Bryan Kennedy, challenger to Sensenbrenner for the 5th CD has almost $84,000--the largest war chest of any candidates here challenging an incumbent. Sensenbrenner has almost $741,000.

3. Here is the article
qualifying the poll:

Clinton favourite for White House
From correspondents in Washington
27apr06

SENATOR Hillary Clinton is the favourite among Democratic voters to be the party's candidate in the 2008 presidential election, a new poll shows.

But only 12 per cent of Democrat voters believe the wife of former president Bill Clinton can overcome the hostility of US Republicans to take the White House, according to the Financial Dynamics poll for The Hotline political newsletter.

The New York senator had support from 38 per cent of Democrats, a 24 percentage point lead over nearest rival Senator John Kerry, the losing Democratic candidate in the 2004 election.

Snip...

But Mrs Clinton is a divisive figure. Many conservatives dislike her because of her attempts to influence policy while her husband was president.

The poll showed Senator John McCain was the leading Republican candidate among Democrats.

Fifty-five per cent of the 603 people surveyed had a favourable view of the Vietnam War veteran who fought George W. Bush for the Republican candidacy in 2000, a higher rating than many Democratic party chiefs received.

The poll, conducted from April 19-23, had a margin of error of four percentage points.

These are similar to the results posted in the past, but Clinton is losing ground on other Democrats.

On McCain, WTF?
