Does anybody know where Kerry is this week?
He missed the votes yesterday and today, including the vote on PTSD treatment funding (Akaka amendment that he co-sponsored), so I guess he is doing something important, but I cant find what.

were not voting too. If that adds any clue. Was Biden at the SFRC meeting? It's weird because he did do the radio interviews.

10. We knew she wasn't there, but I don't think anyone
knew that she wasn't there because she wasn't feeling well. She has a pretty busy schedule herself and may have had a conflict. I have no idea how far ahead this was scheduled. There was a thread last week where she was in Denver to accept an award (I think from the AFL-CIO) for work the Heinz foundation did in support of health (care or insurance.)

12. I dont think this is the issue, but I am still curious and it is true that
there was at least one vote yesterday where he could have changed the result (or not) depending how he was going to vote:

The Coburn Amendment was tabled 49 to 48 with many votes across party line.

the LNG terminal there, but I have not seen any report concerning the Chamber of Commerce. Anyway, it was Monday, so I am still wondering where he was yesterday.

Even if Bush bored with the whole thing and depressed because no one loves him anymore confessed (truthfully or not) to stealing the election and offered to step down in favor of Kerry - the constitution wouldn't let him.

"Hello?"

"Um, John?"

"Yeah. Is that you Mr. President?"

"Shh, not so loud, John! Say, do you, um, think you could stop by this afternoon to uh, talk over some op-shuns and stuff? You know--about Iraq?"

"You mean you want me to come over there and be your de facto policy advisor??"

"Yeah well, we'd have to keep it, you know, under our hats..heh-heh-heh..."

(Kerry rubs left eye and sighs)"Well you know this thing in Iraq is completely FUBAR--you know that, don't you?"

"Heh-heh-heh-heh...oh no, not at all! I just thought we could, you know, kick around a few ideas..."

"All right. I know you'll deny it ever happened, but I'll do it for the sake of those kids over there--if you can promise that the Defense Secretary isn't going to veto every thing anyway!"

"Oh no no no--I'm the decider! Oh, and John, on second thought, wait until after dark and come in the back way, ok?"

MIAMI BEACH
Kerry to boost Fla. Democrats
Sen. John Kerry prepared for Saturday's Democratic fundraiser in Miami Beach with some sharp words for Republicans running for statewide office.

BY BETH REINHARD
breinhard@MiamiHerald.com

Former and possibly future presidential contender John Kerry is coming to Miami Beach Saturday to headline one of the Florida Democratic Party's biggest fundraisers for the 2006 election.

In a last-minute appeal distributed Wednesday, Kerry -- who lost Florida and the presidency two years ago -- took shots at two GOP candidates running statewide.

''Katherine Harris making excuse after excuse about her ties to one of the largest-ever Congressional bribery scandals that has already landed one Republican in prison,'' Kerry's e-mail says. ``Charlie Crist turning a blind eye to astonishingly dangerous incompetence by a Republican state contractor. . . Enough is enough.''

U.S. Rep. Harris, running an underdog campaign against incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, received illegal contributions from a defense contractor who also pleaded guilty to bribing a California congressman. She says she did not know the donations were illegal. Last week, she said she regretted allowing him to pay for an expensive dinner they shared in Washington.

Crist, the Florida attorney general running for governor, tried to quiet Democratic critics by deciding earlier this month to prosecute a false-claims case against a company that has a $350 million human-resources management contract with the state.

State party officials would not estimate Wednesday how much money they expect to raise at the Kerry event, but Republicans still hold a multi-million dollar fundraising advantage.

39. Posted this on the Kos thread
As someone else here pointed out Julia Thorne asked that people respect her privacy.

Under those circumstances, it would be most respectful if this diary was removed. There has been no news on the wires since this was posted hours ago.

Julia Thorne although valuing her privacy has always defended her first husband John Kerry and was supportive of him throughout the campaign.

Here's a couple of quotes to put their relationship in perspective:

“She was a wonderful mother, always totally committed and dedicated to our children. If anything, she made up for my deficits. I could never have pursued my career in public service without her support and understanding.... We remain connected as good friends who shared an important part of our lives and who, to this day, share responsibility and love for the two remarkable daughters we have been blessed with. Both of us are proud that, while our marriage failed, our parenting did not.” – John Kerry, The New Yorker, December 23, 2002

Thorne remains a Kerry supporter, and sometimes called him after primary wins with her congratulations. Today she and her current husband, an architect, are active in local environmental issues and arts education, and she's working on a memoir about growing up in Italy. The local paper has discovered her, and slowly, townsfolk are waking up to the fact that they have the former wife of a presidential candidate in their midst. She's told friends that she's hopeful that Kerry will win. – Newsweek, “Family History: The First Mrs. John Kerry,” May 3, 2004

It's all unsubstantiated at this point. If anyone sees any more on this please contact me through my email via the Dem Daily or PM me here. Thanks!

33. It would make sense . . .
I remember reading that his first wife had cancer sometime in the past few years (I don't remember specifics), but that she was declared to be in remission sometime around the 2004 election (there was an article about that in the NY Post, I believe). If this report is true, that would be so incredibly sad, especially for Alex and Vanessa.
