Pope's condition 'grave'
ABC News is quoting 'un-named sources close to the Pope' as saying that his condition is 'grave', and that doctors will be preforming a tracheotomy on him shortly to assist his breathing.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

5. I believe many people will be surprised at

how much they will be affected by this pope's death, whenever it comes, and how widespread the effect will be. I remember very well the first papal death in my lifetime, that of Pius XII in 1958 and the outpouring of grief and praise for his works.
Many today don't remember any pope but John Paul II, or dimly recall the deaths of John XXIII, Paul and John Paul I. Twenty-five years is a long time for a man to be pope.

Ours is a young Church, demographically; I will feel 'lost' for a bit, afterwards, though I know we shall never be without a Shepherd.

7. A prayer from the Irish
Bright King of Friday and Father Almighty,
make a roof for him by night and guard him by day
If you are to bring him along the path
He has never seen before,
make it a pathway to the life of glory.

9. Breaking: Pope taken into surgery
ROME (Reuters) - Pope John Paul has been taken to an operating room in Rome's Gemelli hospital and might have surgery to help him breathe more easily, Italian media said on Thursday.

A television report said earlier that doctors were considering performing a tracheotomy, where a small opening is cut into the neck and the windpipe so air can directly flow into the lungs.

Sky Italia television and state broadcaster RAI both reported that "everything was ready for a tracheotomy" and said the 84-year-old Pope was already in the operating theater.

The Pope was rushed to hospital Thursday for the second time this month after a relapse of flu and renewed breathing problems.

12. Paddy, I have no doubt about the report from ABC Radio
but the weird thing is that I have MSRNC on just for background noise and they haven't mentioned a word about this development yet.

I'm joining all of you in prayers for the Pope.

16. Prayer to St. Dymphna
Lord, our God, you graciously chose St. Dymphna as patroness of those afflicted with mental and nervous conditions. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering such trials, and especially those for whom we pray, namely our beloved Pope John Paul II.

We beg you, Lord, to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna on our behalf. Grant all those for whom we pray patience in their sufferings and resignation to your divine will. Please fill Pope John Paul II with hope, and grant him the relief and cure he so much desires.

We ask this through Christ our Lord who suffered agony in the garden. Amen.

May God Bless all of those praying for our beloved John Paul II.

20. AP report posted on Yahoo

By VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer

VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II underwent a successful tracheotomy operation Thursday to ease his breathing problems, the Vatican (news - web sites) said, after he was rushed back to the hospital for the second time in a month, suffering fever and congestion. Surgeons inserted a breathing tube in his throat.

A Vatican statement said the operation was finished "in a positive way" and lasted 30 minutes.

But a tracheotomy will have serious consequences for the pope's abilities to carry out his duties. The operation will prevent him from speaking for an extended period of time and probably require a long hospital stay.

23. Now, I just heard that one reason for the trac
is to make it easier to put him on a breathing appratus (sp). If that is the case, I wonder if he would resign.
