Let's have a Prayer Vigil for His Holiness in this thread.
Please, post only prayers for the Holy Father in this thread and discuss his condition in the existing thread. Think of a prayer thread as us literally praying together.

O8)

Let us pray.

May Christ Who was crucified for your sake

free you from excruciating pain.

May Christ Who died for you

free you from the death that never ends.

May Christ the Son of the living God

set you in the ever green loveliness of His Paradise,

and may He, the true Shepherd,

recognize you as one of His own.

May you see your Redeemer face to face

and standing in His presence forever,

may you see with joful eyes

Truth revealed in all its fullness.

Amen.

1. What a beautiful prayer.
This may sound off-putting to some of the members here, but I pray that if today, tonight or tomorrow is the Holy Father's time to go to God that it happens quickly and without pain.

I"m not a practicing Catholic now, but I truly believe that Pope John Paul II is a truly good man and I have no doubt that he will rest in peace with all the saints and angels.

3. Almighty and Everlasting God
preserver of souls, who dost correct those whom Thou dost love, and for their betterment dost tenderly chastise those whom Thou dost receive, we call upon Thee, O Lord, to grant Thy healing, that the soul of Thy servant, at the hour of its departure from the body, may by the hands of Thy holy Angels be presented without spot unto Thee. Amen.

Remove, O merciful Father, whatever is corrupt in him through human frailty, or by the snares of the enemy; make him a true member of the Church, and let him partake of the fruit of Thy redemption. 6. Paternoster
Pater noster, qui est in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie; et dimmite nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimitibus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.

Amen.

7. Hail, Mary, full of grace...
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Almighty God, look on your servant John Paul, lying in great weakness, and comfort him with the promise of life everlasting, given in the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

God the Father,
Have mercy on your servant.

God the Son,
Have mercy on your servant.

God the Holy Spirit,
Have mercy on your servant.

8. Dear St. Anthony
Holy Saint Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Encouraged by this thought, I ask that you intercede for your servant, John Paul, and ease his journey from this world into the next. O gentle and loving Saint Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours.

Amen.

10. A prayer for you, Cara Papa, because you are a priest forever,

and for all the many priests who serve us faithfully and well.

Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord,
Keep them, for they are Thine -
Thy priests whose lives burn out before
Thy consecrated shrine.

Keep them, for they are in the world.
Though from the world apart;
When earthly pleasures tempt, allure, -
Shelter them in Thy heart.

Keep them, and comfort them in hours
Of loneliness and pain,
When all their life of sacrifice
For souls seems but in vain.

Keep them, and O remember, Lord,
They have no one but Thee,
Yet they have only human hearts,
With human frailty.

Keep them as spotless as the Host,
That daily they caress;
Their every thought and word and deed,
Deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

11. Amen. Here's my own homemade prayer for the Pope.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Mary, the Mother of God and Joseph, his foster father; with all the angels and saints assembled, let us pray:

Dear Lord,

If it is Your will to take our Holy Father, Karol Józef Wojtyła, who has stood as a representative of You in earthly form, then Your will be done. Our Holy Father has participated as an Archbishop in great reform of our Church with the Second Vatican Council and gone across the world preaching the gospel. During his papacy, he purified relations between Christians and Jews, and bridged the gap between Catholics and Protestants.

Dear Lord,

Please take our Holy Father, if it be your will. I have no doubt in my mind that he will meet his predecessor St. Peter at the Holy Gates, and he one day will also be known as a saint as well.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

13. Thank you. I'd like to add my own prayer.
I pray for John Paul II, who steadily guided his Church for more than 26 years, whether I agree with the direction he took it or not. And I pray, as always, for all on this Earth who are suffering through their final moments in this mortal life. May they find peace and comfort.

Edited on Fri Apr-01-05 08:27 PM by Cuban_Liberal
Holy Mary, be with your servant John Paul, as you were with your Son in His final agony. Comfort him, and shower your loving care upon him. In Christ's name we ask this.

Amen.
