I am a non-Catholic but as a child of the 80's ( and a very aware child I was ) I always knew that there was something special about Pope John Paul II . I remember seeing him kissing the ground . Pictures and footage of his visits to countries around the world . But for some reason , it was always hard for me to sleep on Christmas Eve . The only thing that calmed me down was watching the Christmas Mass from St. Peter's Basilica from the Vatican City . It was the only thing on my television that evening , being as it was that I did not have cable . But as the years went on into my twenties , I still looked forward to watching the Christmas Mass on every Christmas Eve ... I watched it last year . Its going to be hard watching the Christmas Mass under a new Pope , I just think there was something special about Pope John Paul II . I am sad that I did not realize it years ago while he was here .
So many times the news media centers stories on madmen in the world . But this weekend we are concentrating on a man , a human , who preached about " peace " . He might have been a Catholic , but in the end , he was a human , and both of those things were alright with me . I don't see any problem with this news coverage at all . He believed in his faith - I envy his followers for they have faith that I wish I had . He followed his calling . I pray for his spirit and for all his followers . Amen .
