JPII related..First Game of the Season at the Baseball Cathedral..

in the Bronx. Before the National Anthem was sung, the Yankees asked for and got a long moment of silence in recognition/remembrance of JP II. Then they showed a close-up of a plaque in honor of the Pope. I'm wondering if they put it in Monument Park, behind the outfield.
If so that would be an unusual thing, altho there are a lot of Catholics in the NY Metropolitan area.

Yeah I would assume that the Bronx is a heavily Catholic area. I know it may sound absurd but I would prefer to live in a more heavily Catholic area, though I do have diversity here in this part of Virginia. I doubt they would put it in mounment park though, its nice that they did that as a gesture though.

was that they zoomed in on a plaque on tv, not on a picture on the Jumbotron. Maybe the paper will mention it.

After all, Joe Torre's sister is also a Sister.

PS NYC has a lot of Catholics, not just from the Bronx. The Stadium isn't exactly in a residential area. Fans come from all over for the games. There is a large Santo Domingo community in Manhattan, as well as other Hispanics, and not all of the Irish, Italians & Poles have fled to the 'burbs!

I didnt know his sister was a nun if thats what you mean. Yes, I know NYC is heavily Catholic. One of the things that makes me proud of being Catholic is the diversity of the faith. Never been to the Bronx so I had no idea what kind of neighborhood the staidum is in.

I wasn't watching very closely because that plaque might have had something to do with JPII's mass at Yankee stadium

occasion. Do you know where it is or are you just conjecturing? It does sound plausible.

Still, a plaque in Yankee Stadium is like having your own altar in St. Pat's, at the very least!

There's also a memorial installed in honor of Pope Paul VI, who celebrated Mass at Yankee Stadium in the late 1960s.

7. My mom was sitting in the infield for that Mass!..

and I believe she was at the Shea Stadium mass celebrated by JP II.
I think the Polish parishes got dibs on those tickets.
