Email the Pope

in English:

benedictxvi@vatican.va

Interesting article:
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=738&e=1&u=/ap/20050422/ap_on_re_eu/vatican_pope_s_e_mail&sid=84439559

They say the vast majority are positive, and I don't doubt it.

1. Catholic DU cat lovers/owners: E-mail him your kitty pics
He'll love it! Also don't forget to ask him to bless your pets, especially the kitties.

3. I just e-mailed His Holiness
and not only sent him prayers, but three pictures of my cat, Boots! I also asked him to pray for us and the cat--even that I could keep a collar on him!

Boots tries to take off every collar I try to put on him!!

4. Forgive me for bringing this up...
...but, after going through the usual day's e-mail solicitations from people offering to improve every facet of my sex life (from length to...uh...flavor), not to mention creatively-misspelled plugs for all sorts of new websites to "broaden my horizons" in such areas, as well as innumerable "hot offers" for low-interest second mortgages, mail-order businesses "that really work," "St0ck tips for Savvy investors," and the occasional fake Rolex, I have to wonder...

...does benedictxvi@vatican.va get subjected to the same spam as the rest of us?

5. Europe has stricter anti-spam laws
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 02:03 PM by IronLionZion
but I'm sure the Pope gets spam in addition to the thousands of legitimate emails from people around the world.

I hope the White House gets spammed too. :P

7. I only wish...
...we could find out which "mortgage companies" were spamming him, so we could find someone with a German/Italian accent (tricky, I'd admit) and call them, asking about a home-equity loan on Vatican City!

;-)

6. I e-mailed him last night.
I offered him my best wishes and told him that I prayed for him; I also sent pics of both cats, both dogs and the ferret, and asked him if he would bless them.

:)

8. I'm going to ask him to be careful.
I mean this very, very sincerely. I noticed he traveled in an open car, and being a good baby boomer, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when I see any major leader travel in an open car (exceptions will be made for the Labor Day parade in Kensington, MD, where all we need worry about are rude Republicans). I do hope he will use a Popemobile or the like.

Of course, when he's meeting small groups, the security concerns are quite different.

As for the cat stories, I was really amused to read the humanizing profile in one of the American papers (Was it the San Francisco Chronicle?), particularly the parts about how he loves cookies and was a friend to the cats who hung out at a particular church.

9. John Paul II continued riding in an open car

in St. Peter's Square. Or at least it was open on the passenger side so he could reach out and touch the outstrectehd hands of people along the rope line that kept them from getting in front of the jeep. I know because he touched my husband's hand in 1985, several years after the shooting in the same place that nearly killed him. So he refused to be cut off completely.

10. The NY Times reported that at his home in his hometown..
the one where he and his priest brother had planned to retire, that he has a statue of the Virgin Mary and a bronze statue of a cat in the garden.

I wonder if you can have a pet if you are the Pope.
