Whatever poisition you take on the Irish situation, it appears that there is a major movement coming today with an announcement from the IRA. Prayers for a peaceful future, please.
Ahern 'broadly happy' with IRA statement

28 July 2005 11:34

RTÉ News understands that the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has been told the content of today's expected statement from the IRA and is broadly happy with it.

The Irish and British governments are thought to be anticipating that the IRA will announce that it intends to pursue its aims purely through peaceful means.

Mr Ahern's comments are understood to follow intensive contact between the Government and republicans in the run up to today's statement.

All IRA units ordered to dump arms
Members ordered to pursue objectives through "exclusively peaceful means"
Arms to be put beyond use as quickly as possible
Two church witnesses to verify this
Statement followed "honest and forthright" consultation process
Strong support among IRA members for Sinn Fein's peace strategy

2. Definitely praying for peace.
Of course I pray for peace throughout the world, but especially we want to see a just and lasting peace in Northern Ireland. May God guide all the parties involved and let the work of making peace prosper.
