Is Catholic Charities doing anything New Orleans?
I'm looking for organizations to which I can donate.

1. Here you go

My Internet connection is slower than molasses today, but I plan to go back and check out more sites.

ON EDIT: I added this to the general thread above. I think this is an important charity to donate to because a lot of CC's archdiocesan offices have been hard hit. Those are the folks who do the very heavy lifting when things like this happen -- distribute food, clothes, etc.

2. I'm glad it's long-term assistance.
CC is there for the long haul, fortunately, and we all know the people are really going to need every bit of help available.

Thanks for the link, AOD. I had a CC brochure from mass the other week, but no 800 number.

3. They did a great job in the wake of the Tsunami
so I would think that they would do just as good a job after Katrina...I want to donate some money (I don't have much) but I am either going to do the Red Cross or Catholic Charities

4. Thanks, everyone
I'm also going to donate to the Salvation Army. I know a lot of people on this board take issues with their views, but they do great work. They helped keep my grandmother and father alive during the Great Depression, so I've always been generous when they call.

5. The main thing is to get the help to those who need it.
It's not so much the organization but the effectiveness that matters.

6. Update on the Washington, D.C., Diocese.
Yesterday our church had its first collection for hurricane relief, and I think other parishes may be having collections as late as next weekend. Some hurricane survivors will be temporarily housed in the area, under the auspices of Catholic Charities, I believe.

The monsignor hit all the right notes in yesterday's comments, telling us that the survivors needed our material support as well as our prayers. His sermon was on Catholic social teaching and the labor movement, particularly the fact that work is for the person, not person for the work, and many struggle just to survive.

What happened in your parishes this past weekend?

7. Good to hear that

A little refresher on Rerum Novarum and Quadragesimo Anno is always a good thing.
