Any other Orthodox here?
I know this is the Catholic and Orthodox forum, but it seems to be very Catholic dominated. Am I the only Orthodox DUer?

4. I'm Half-Greek, Half-English
I was brought up in the Greek Church, but I have a great fondness for the pre-schism English church, fueled by the writings of Fr. Andrew Phillips (an English Orthodox priest who has a very English take on Orthodoxy) and the work done on recreating the Old Sarum rite by the monks of St. Hilarion's Monastery in Austin, TX.

5. She's Bulgarian
I get the old Slavonic traditions at times. Very interesting. Compared to Catholicism more spiritual...and less focused on repetition.

3. I have been attracted to it.
I'm an Anglo-Catholic - very close to being Roman Catholic - but in many ways I prefer the mysticism of the Divine Liturgy to the rather utilitarian nature of the modern day Mass.

I also think that at times the Anglo-Catholic style of approaching theology is often closer to that of Orthodoxy.

I've also been paying a little attention to the switch of the British Russian Orthodox from the Moscow Patriarchate to the Oecumenical...

9. A couple of books I recommend
Being a convert, there were a couple of books that helped me understand and make a better decision. Bishop Ware's book, The Orthodox Way, helps with the differences in theology. There are some good books specifically on the differences between the RC and Orthodox. A good resource is Conciliar Press.

6. I became acquainted with Orthodox when I moved to where I'm living now
Serbian orthodox, Greek Orthodox. Serbian-Greek Orthodox: just kidding.

I went to a very cool Orthodox funeral: the entire service sung, and at one point, we all got up and filed past the open casket. To say good bye, which I thought was very nice.

8. Liturgy is sung, not just funerals or weddings.
We recite very little. Most of it is sung, and while there is a choir in most churches, they are to lead the rest of us so we all sing it. Priests are usually good singers, too.

The best liturgy of the year is Easter. It starts late at night the night before (ask the church, some start earlier than others, but it's usually around midnight). It's really something.

7. Hubby and I are.
:hi:

We're converts, having grown up evangelical Christians and met at our old church's college. We're at a great Russian Orthodox Church now.

Don't know where they went but I'm glad you're here. :hi:
