Hello to all here. May I please butt in with a question?

I am going to use Amazon or Abebooks or another on-line used book service to order some texts for a study.

Can you folks point me toward the appropriate editions for a Bible commonly used in Catholic practice and the appropriate editions in Orthodox practice?

If there is more than one edition I should see, that's ok, but I don't really know which editions are in common use / or are widely accepted.

Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

3. The question about Orthodox bibles is a little more difficult

Thre is an Orthodox Study Bible (OSB), but it is just the NKJV New Testament and Psalms with footnotes and other study materials by Orthodox scholars. The problem is that the Orthodox Old Testament is the Septuagint, and only one translation has been published in English, a somewhat eccentric version from the Victorian era. There has been a new translation in the works for many years now - the current projected release date for the complete OSB is currently Spring 2008, but this has been put back many times in the past.

Some Western Rite Orthodox use Challoner's revision of the Douay-Rheims bible, arguing that it was based on the Vulgate, which was the Bible of the pre-schism west, and so is common to both Catholics and Orthodox. Hope this helps.

I'm aware of the sensitivity some following have over different editions and I'm trying to be as consistent as possible in the texts used.
