Joke told during a parish mission by a Passionist.
My name is Father Mevin.

When I was assigned to a parish I used to enjoy going to a movie on my day off.

The nearest movie was in a mall.

As I was going down the escalator I noticed out of the corner of my eye a woman on the up escalator who seemed to recognize me.

Since she looked familiar and, not wanting to be rude, I exchanged a nod as we passed. She did the same.

By the time I got to the bottom of the escalator I still could not place her.

Apparently she did.

From the top of the escalotor I heard her yell down to me, "Oh Father Melvin! I didn't recognize you with your clothes on!"

I knew what she meant. She knew what she meant. Nevertheless I lurched into the darkness of the movie theater hoping everyone in earshot would not be there when I came out.

1. Well, she could have phrased that better.

2. I remember one time
I was at a local drug store, and there was a guy there in his 60s in regular "street clothes." I kept thinking to myself that I saw this guy before somewhere, and he did seem to recognize me, but I couldn't quite place him. Later on I found out that our Archbishop often wears regular clothes when he's not working so that all clicked together who exactly it was.

3. We had a Jesuit one time preach at our parish

And he started with this joke;

A Franciscan gets a haircut, and then asks how much he owes. The barber says he never charges clergy. The Franciscan thanks the barber and goes home. The next morning the barber finds a big basket of fresh bread from the Franciscans' kitchens.

The next day an Augustinian gets his hair cut by the same barber. The barber also tells him than he never charges clergy. So, the following day the barber receives a nice bottle of wine from the Augustinians' wine cellar.

A few days later a Jesuit stops by to get his haircut, and the barber again says that he never charges clergy. The next day, when the barber got to work, there were a dozen other Jesuits all lined up waiting for him.
