dragged out during a lecture during the Inquisition and held for 10 years.
After he was released he returned to the lecture hall where a large crowd had gathered and finished his lecture after saying "As I was saying before I was interupted. . ."
Trying to finish a paper and would like to include story.

I can't get over this place.
Did you know the story or did you search it?
I am so impressed.

3. Well, it was either him or Jack Paar. |
|
I had heard a similar story but I had to search to find this guy.
Good luck with your writing.

one from the Inquisition.
I was searching for Italian Theolgians.
I didn't even know that the Spanish had a "Golden Era". lol.
The reference may interest you.
10 years ago I was an executive at a large company. The new President undertook short cuts that were clearly unethical.
At the time I was working on a reorganization of about one third of the company.
I stood up and called him out and was fired. My income declined by 70%.
After a while the company started a sharp decline in sales.
Earlier this year the BBB gave them an "F" rating.
They went back and hired another cashiered exec to be the President.
A couple of weeks I got a call asking if I had any ideas what could be done.
The report is titled "As I was saying before I was interupted".

5. here is the introduction |
|
In 1572 Luis Ponce de Leon, a lyrical biblical scholar of Spain’s Golden Age, was denounced to the Inquisition for translating the Song of Solomon. He was imprisoned until 1576 when the charges against him were abandoned without cause. He was released with an admonition. He returned to the University at Salamanca. The next day he returned to the lecture hall he was at 4 years before and resumed his lecture with the statement “Dicebamus hesterna die” . . . “As I was saying before I was interrupted . . .” and finished the lecture he had been giving.
Approximately 400 years later Jack Parr would get angry at the idiotic censor at NBC cutting a joke about a “water closet” and leave the tonight show at the beginning of a live show. A month later he returned and started the show with the same phrase that de Leon had used returning from prison. It is not known if he was aware of its original source.

6. Very smooth. I can't imagine anyone not paying attention to the rest. |
|
The bonus is that anyone who doesn't like Latin quotes will leave the room. Nothing good comes from them anyway. :)
