I'm as evil as a child rapist - the Vatican says so!
The publication this week of the Vatican Canon law document, ‘NORMAE DE GRAVIORIBUS DELICTIS’ heaped further gratuitous insult on the Protestant churches when the offence of celebrating the Eucharist with members of ‘ecclesial communities’ (Protestants) was given an equivalence to “the taking or retaining for a sacrilegious purpose or the throwing away of the consecrated species.” In other words celebrating the Eucharist with Protestants is the same as chucking the consecrated host in the bin!
I protest! This cannot be defended as ‘ecumenical honesty’ or ‘speaking the truth in love’ – this is quite simply sectarian and hateful language and has no place in any document which claims Christian provenance.
But there is more – As if that were not enough, sharing equal status with the sacramental crime of celebrating the Eucharist with Protestants is the further sacramental crime of attempting to ordain women to the priesthood and the moral crime of Pedophilia! All of these are described as grave delicts.

1. No wonder the canonisation of Blessed John XXIII is on the back-burner.
Funny how all the required miracles are performed in the name of the hardliners and bigots (like Josemaria Escriva of Opus Dei), but Blessed John helps nobody.

He must be whirling in his grave at the backward steps the church is taking today.

2. A week or so after that document came out...
...a priest of my acquaintance gave a sermon on Martha and Mary, emphasizing the spirutuality of women and their dynamic role in the faith community. He did not come out and say, "Oh, by the way, we should ordain women," but I checked with him afterwards and he said yes, he had been trying to make a response to the latest developments.

Of course I've alway found that individual nuns and priests are sometimes a good deal more progressive than many people in the pews, including about ecumenical matters and women's ordination.

4. Sad to say, that may be because the progressives aren't in the
pews anymore. I know more people who are starving for Church, but can't tolerate the mess the hierarchy has made. Sort of like someone who wants to visit Mom, but can't stand to be in the same room with the drunken old crank she's married to!
