CUBAN president, Raul Castro, joined Catholic leaders to open a seminary near Havana, the first religious building on the island in more than half a century.

Mr Castro's presence showed just how much relations between the Church and Cuba have improved.

2. Yes. It was presumably meant ironically. But it struck me as inappropriate,
so, I believe I omitted it from my post to the Latin American folder.
