1. It's way worse than you knew:
The Archbishop of Leon, Mexico is calling on Catholics to dress modestly at Mass. “If you have any respect for this place (a church), dress appropriately,” Archbishop Jose Guadalupe Martin Rabago told reporters after Mass on July 24.

Criticism of the archbishop’s comments came after local newspapers featured photos of posters at some parishes in Leon that said, “Respect God’s house. Don’t come dressed like this.” The posters said women should not come to church dressed in miniskirts, sleeveless shirts, or low-cut blouses.

What is it with Spaniards and Italians and women's shoulders?

2. At the Vatican, they have similar dress codes. At my church, I've seen
some pretty, pretty flimsy clothing on, some, young women. They come with their parents, so who's at fault there? Don't get me wrong, I'm far from being a prude. Just saying.

3. Agree.
Like very short shorts and tops that don't leave much to the imagination, which I've seen on quite a few occasions.

I wouldn't want to see that kind of clothing at the theatre either, or for dinner at a good restaurant. It's just a matter of dressing appropriately for the venue and the occasion.

Personally, I've always enjoyed the excuse to dress up, but many young people just don't seem to care what they wear, and it's too often the less, the better. It's a bit sad, really.

4. My parish doesn't have a "dress code," but...
there is always a reminder in the bulletin during the summer to dress appropriately.

Recommends against short shorts, halter tops, spaghetti straps, etc.

7. I've never been to a parrish church with a dress code. Most of it
is, just, plain common sense.

5. Actually, I don't mind the comments about dressing modestly.
I can definitely agree with that. What I was really talking about was the guy's views on women in society. Tney should not hold any kind of leadership positions in the church, even those that do not require ordination; and they should not hold political office, serve in the military, or be police officers, according to him. I guess we should just be content to waste our lives cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, and changing diapers. :banghead:
