1. I think it's very interesting.
It may have far greater appeal to the young than the "meek and mild" image we're used to. In fact, Mary must have been a very strong woman to cope with the events of her life, and this image reflects that strength. The more I see it, the more impressed I am with the concept.

original in Mexico City where she has been venerated for over 450 years? Just asking.

4. The painter's name is Yolanda Lopez......
My interpretation is that she loves the Madonna but as a model for a strong woman. Note that each depiction represents a form of feminine strength and endurance. I think these images are closer to the woman who walked to Jerusalem and then to Egypt, who left her family and neighbors to follow her Son, who stood at the foot of the Cross than the more common frail and refined image we are given.
