It will be a day I will always remember, January 31, 2005. On that day, we lost someone who was what made this family what it is. Nana as she was to me was 92 years old when she passed this monday. I think about that real hard, and realize that she was born in the year 1912, before the break of modern war, a much more simpler and I do say peaceful time. She was born to Michael Keown and his wife Lillian Joyce Keown in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania, they were hard working Irish. I think of what nana would always tell me when I was a little kid about how her father was a friend of the baseball legend Honus Wagner, it's one of my few memories I still have of Nana remembering her life well. Nana with my grandfather, Howard Kleeb had six kids, fourteen grand kids, 17 great grand kids, and one great great grand child. I thought about that the other night, and I realized that my maternal great great grandparents never spoke English or even came to this country. Nana was one of the kindest people I ever knew, not once did I see her get angry or lose her temper with some one, I always liked going over to Halycon House as a kid because there would be something to do like eat cookies or look at old pictures. I remember a couple summers ago, when we had the family reunion, I thought it was just the coolest thing ever that we were actually able to get actual video footage of nana, her sisters, her father, and big dad. The week I heard Nana was on her last had been a tough one for me, I just couldn’t believe it. When I found out that she had passed away Monday morning, I thought to myself, I am glad I believe in heaven because she is at peace now with those who have passed before her. Nana I will miss you and always remember you. I long to see you in the morning light, I long to reach for you in the night as Dylan said in “Lay Lady Lay” God Bless you Nana, I hope to meet you in heaven along with the others who have left this world in heaven.
